I am Denise Pertuz, a licensed clinical social worker providing therapy to clients in New Jersey and Florida. I hold dual master’s degrees in Social Work from Rutgers University and in Child Advocacy and Policy from Montclair State University, which guide how I understand both personal experiences and the systems that influence people’s lives. I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and depression, and I also complete clinical evaluations for immigration cases, including Extreme Hardship Waivers, VAWA, Asylum, and U-Visa petitions. My work is collaborative and relational, with an emphasis on helping clients feel safe, grounded, and supported as they move toward meaningful and sustainable change.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, you can expect a welcoming and nonjudgmental space where we take time to talk about what brought you to therapy and what you would like support with. I will ask thoughtful questions to better understand your experiences, challenges, and goals, so we can begin shaping an approach that feels supportive, collaborative, and aligned with your needs.
The treatment methods and tools I utilize
In my work, I use a blend of approaches that meet clients where they are. This often includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and trauma-informed care. I focus on practical tools—like grounding exercises, emotion regulation strategies, and values-based reflection—to help clients better understand themselves, set healthy boundaries, and feel more in control of their lives.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My work centers on creating a space where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard. As a bilingual clinician in English and Spanish, I support family reunification and help individuals navigate difficult or unhealthy relationships while identifying safe, realistic next steps. I value working with diverse communities and remain committed to ongoing training to provide thoughtful, trauma-informed care using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work best with individuals who are moving through major life transitions, healing from difficult relationships, or carrying past experiences that continue to show up in the present. My ideal clients are curious about themselves and open to growth, even when the next step feels unclear, and are ready to work toward meaningful, lasting change at a pace that feels right for them.
