Jina Varanasi-Lee

LISW5 years of experience

Thanks for checking out my profile. I work with adults with complex trauma using a relational, nonjudgmental approach. I believe healing happens through building safety, stability, and meaningful connections, while helping people integrate traumatic experiences into their larger life story.

I work with adults with complex trauma using a relational, nonjudgmental approach.

I draw from CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, interpersonal therapy, parts work, and EMDR, depending on what is most helpful for each client. Together, we work to reduce the impact of trauma by understanding how past experiences continue to affect you in the present, developing new ways of coping and relating to others, and supporting post-traumatic growth. Therapy can also be a space to reconnect with what matters to you, identify larger goals, and build a life that feels more grounded, connected, and meaningful.

First session

During the first session I will just focus on getting to know you in terms of what brought you to therapy, your history and any significant life events. It is never required for you to answer something if you aren't comfortable with that. And conversely, if you want me to know something that I didn't ask please know you are welcome to do so. I try to get a feel for what your goals are - if you aren't sure yet, that is certainly ok.

Strengths

I really believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person and try to practice that as a clinician. We all have a story and have made mistakes, but these don't have to define you. In my therapeutic approach, I embrace an eclectic style. I draw from from a variety of different therapies, including EMDR, IFS, CBT, DBT, Narrative Therapy and SF, depending on the client's needs.

Ideal clients

I value working with clients who are trying to stay present in their lives while also tackling trauma. A lot of my clients have tried therapy many times before and are looking for a way to integrate all of what they have learned. Of course, some client do not know exactly what they are hoping for, and that is OK. Wherever you are in the process is valid. Everyone's path to healing is different.

Treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In DBT clients learn skills to build a life they feel is worth living. There are four types of skills to learn including distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfullness skills and interpersonal effectiveness skills.
