My name is Dr. Steven Mehl and I have been a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania since July of 2016. I have worked primarily in college counseling centers as well as in nursing and rehabilitation facilities. In addition, I have worked for over a decade with adults of varying abilities who carry a diagnosis of developmental (autism spectrum) and/or intellectual disabilities. I have also gained some experience working with individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction while working at an outpatient treatment center. I have worked with individuals of all different ages and backgrounds and have enjoyed helping them address different psychological and general life issues. I practice primarily cognitive-behavioral (CBT) therapy, while also utilizing some alternative approaches. As a therapist, I strive to help clients by first establishing a sense of their background and aspects of their current motivation. It is this motivation that will help to propel the therapeutic process forward and ensure that you, the client, are the one who is in control.
Clients can expect to talk about their motivation for seeking out therapy as well as talking about different areas of their life to help establish a more holistic picture of the different factors affecting their mood, thinking and behavior.
I have worked with clients dealing with issues related to anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, loss, focus issues, motivation issues, relationship issues, etc...
Clients struggling with anxiety, depression and/or anger issues. I have worked extensively with individuals struggling with worry, panic, trauma, OCD and other phobias as well as with the everyday stressors of life.
Raising awareness of negative self talk and how this relates to our mood and motivation can help us to engage in effective de/re-programing. Changes in self talk, behavior and focus can help us dramatically shift our attitudes, perspectives and overall quality of life.
Learning how to engage in acceptance of where we are right now, our thoughts, feelings and habits, can help us to get unstuck and move forward in our lives towards greater meaning and connection.
Learning how to disengage from thought and engage the world and ourselves more in the present moment helps us to experience life more fully, enhance our engagement in daily activities and our connection with others.
