New to Grow
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) who has experience working with various issues including, but not limited to, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, adjustment disorders, relationship concerns, communication difficulties, and behavioral disorders. Michael works with clients of all ages but has extensive experience working with young adolescents and teens due to past work with child services and juvenile probation. Michael utilizes a variety of treatment modalities including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Play Therapy. Michael strives to create a safe, all-inclusive, judgement-free therapeutic environment, while offering a wide variety of interventions to best meet each client’s individual needs. Michael studied Psychology and Sociology at Purdue University in West Lafayette and earned his Master’s Degree through Purdue University Northwest in Hammond, Indiana.
While I always like to tell clients I am ready to talk about anything as soon as they are ready, most first sessions with me are conversational in nature in which the two of us are getting to know each other. Statistically it takes two to three therapists before a client finds one they feel is the correct fit and the first sessions should help the client feel as comfortable as possible with the therapist.
A therapist should bring their personality into each sessions. No one wants to feel like they are conversing with a robot. I pride myself in bringing humor and levity into sessions while remaining ethical and professional. I am an all inclusive provider who strives to create a safe space for all clients to feel welcome.
Creating an inclusive and safe space for clients of all ages and backgrounds is very important to me and is a cornerstone of my counseling style. My areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: anxiety, ADHD, depression, impulse control issues, anger issues, screen time addictions, issues transitioning to High School or college, behavior issues, men's issues, and many more.
