LMHC, 6 years of experience
Hi, I’m William Barney, LMHC. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties. My approach is collaborative and evidence-based, drawing from modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. I strive to provide a safe, supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered on their journey toward wellness.
Clients can expect rapport building and finding trust. I tend to ask questions to see how I can help them best. During the first session, I go over the client's rights and therapy rules so there are no surprises. I also give clients the time and opportunity to ask questions about therapy in case they are apprehensive.
I feel my greatest strength as a therapist is to be able to help people overcome their trauma and find their path in life. I find my greatest therapeutic stregnth with Cognitive Behavior therapy and Trauma therapy for helping people move beyond their traumas and emotional obstacles.
I enjoy working with young adults aged 18 years and up. I am straightforward and often tell people what they need to hear instead of what they want. I work best with people who may seem like a challenge when it comes to making a change.
I've been using Cognitive Behavior therapy as a means of eliminating negative thoughts and modifying more positive emotional and behavioral responses. I focus on challenging and restructuring Thoughts: Once negative thought patterns are identified, we challenge and reframe that thought more rationally and rationally. This involves examining evidence for and against negative thoughts and developing more realistic perspectives.
I've been an EMDR therapist for about two years, and I use this modality for those struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other trauma-related conditions. Through EMDR we can overcome anxiety, depression, and phobias
I have extensive experience utilizing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as an evidence-based approach to help clients regulate emotions, manage interpersonal difficulties, and decrease self-destructive behaviors. My training includes both formal DBT workshops and practical application within clinical settings, working with clients who present with high emotional dysregulation, anxiety, depression, borderline personality traits, and trauma histories. Over the course of my practice, I have adapted DBT techniques to meet the individualized needs of clients across age groups and diverse backgrounds.
