Cindy Burman
I work with women in transition experiencing a life challenging event that is affecting your mental well being. If you are struggling with a divorce, separation, betrayal, anxiety, work life balance, empty nest then you are in the right place. I can help you feel better and together we can create a plan individualized for you to promote happiness, better life choices, and experiencing more happiness, while figuring out how to cope, lean in and lead your life.
First session
The first session is mostly information gathering. I want you to know I am always nervous for the first meeting, so if you feel this way, you are not alone. Initially, we'll start with introductions, then explore what has brought you to therapy. We will talk about your needs and hopes in therapy; so we can create a plan specifically for you. Everyone is very different in their needs in therapy. Being open and honest is the best way for me to be able to help you.
Strengths
My greatest strengths are to create a comfortable trusting environment where you can come to therapy with anything and feel supported. I am also a straight forward therapist who wants to know that you are getting what you need in therapy. After working in community mental health, a Christian Therapeutic boarding school, and in private practice I have experiences with teens, adults and parents.
Ideal clients
I love working with women who are experiencing a challenging life event, whether it is feeling stuck, burnt out at work, changes in relationships, or experiencing anxiety or depression. Life is full of transitions and struggles, and I understand firsthand the process of rebuilding after facing adversity. Every step of your journey is an opportunity to learn grow and heal.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which can occur online. EMDR is beneficial in treated trauma and PTSD without re-traumatizing a person. It can be helpful with anxiety, and healing from distressing life experiences.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have used CBT for many years and this treatment is helpful in challenging negative thinking, looking at things with a different perspective. It is beneficial in changing unhelpful or unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Person Centered therapy is an empathetic understanding the clients point of view with no judgment in a supportive environment. This treatment is grounded in the belief that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological functioning.
