(she/her)
My background is in psychology and women's studies with a master's degree in clinical social work from NYU. With 25 years of experience, I individualize care using a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches including psychoanalytic psychotherapy (6-year post-grad program), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT Certified), Motivational Interviewing (MI Certified), and mindfulness. I help therapists, healthcare professionals, yogis, artists, musicians, educators - and others - with personal and job-related stressors. My focus is women's mental health: relationships, parenting, divorcing, dating, transitions, aging and bereavement. I welcome diversity among my clientele inclusive of all races, religions, sexual orientations/genders and neurodiversity.
I am available for consultations and therapy. Together we will figure out exactly what you need to get back to your happy place.
I'm easy to talk to, positive, solution focused and funny. My approach is eclectic and informed by Buddhist psychology. In addition to talk therapy, I offer grounding and breathing techniques, teach meditation and incorporate helpful mantras. My approach is warm, insightful and fun so our sessions will be productive and never boring. My job isn't done until you feel better.
I provide a safe "holding environment" for you to express your internal world - thoughts, feelings, inner personal dynamics and dreams. You will receive support, understanding, encouragement and guidance. Stress busters such as breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, mindfulness, grounding and meditation can be utilized to enhance your wellness. Let's work together toward your goals which often include behavioral changes and self-acceptance. When I'm not working, I enjoy yoga, meditation, music and (sometimes) parenting humans and a "fur baby".
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I am certified in CBT and use this modality when clients want to make changes in their life or behavior and are results orientated and solution focused.
Motivational Interviewing
I am certified in motivation interviewing (MI) and use this approach in combination with other evidence-based practices to help clients make their own decisions when ambivalent toward change.
Psychoanalytic
I have 6 years of post-master's experience studying object relations theory, a form of psychoanalysis that looks at the effects of childhood development, inner/interpersonal relationships and repetition compulsion. Adult events and dynamics are influenced by internalized self, and relationship patterns. This is insight-oriented work helpful for micro and major traumas including childhood-parent mis-attunement which leads to difficulty knowing one's true thoughts and feelings. Together we can better understand patterns fueled by unconscious thoughts and feelings so that you may further define or redefine your boundaries and relationships.
