Lauren Cushing
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specializing in medication management using non-controlled medications. My practice is called Roots to Roads Therapy, LLC. I work with individuals experiencing mood disorders, including anxiety, depression, as well as sleep difficulties. I do not prescribe controlled substances such as Adderall or Xanax. My approach is patient centered and supportive, incorporating cognitive behavioral techniques to help patients better understand their symptoms, develop healthy coping strategies and improve their overall well-being. I strive to create a welcoming, inclusive and judgement-free environment and am an LGBTQ+ affirming provider. I look forward to meeting new clients, understanding their individual needs and helping them move toward feeling their best.
First session
I hope clients leave their first session feeling heard, safe and hopeful about moving forward. I want them to feel they have a supportive space where their concerns matter and where we can work together toward feeling better. We explore medication options that the individual is comfortable with and discuss healthier coping strategies.
Strengths
I believe in holistic, patient-centered approach to care that looks beyond medication alone. I focus on non-controlled medication options when appropriate, while also exploring non-pharmacological strategies when appropriate. I value collaboration with therapists, counselors and other healthcare providers. I believe in understanding how past experiences shape the present while patients make intentional, forward-thinking decisions about their future.
Ideal clients
I welcome clients seeing medication management with non controlled medications. I enjoy working with adults at all stages of life, from young adulthood through the later years. My ideal clients are those who are open to growth, self-reflection, and positive change, including individuals who may simply feel stuck and need help finding a way forward. I believe in taking things one step at a time, exploring past experiences, addressing avoidance and developing healthier coping and communications skills. My goal is to help patients make intentional decisions and move toward a healthier, more fulfilling future.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is a way of helping individuals recognize how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors influence one another. Medication management can help make these steps more manageable when anxiety or depression is an active problem. I help patents with anxiety recognize negative thought patters and challenge worse case scenario thinking. In depression, it is important to encourage small, manageable activities to improve mood and motivation. For sleep difficulty, I explore habits, routines, and thoughts that interfere with restful sleep. I work on communication and emotional triggers and how to break larger goals into smaller steps when one feels stuck.
