Many people appear "fine" on the outside while internally struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, stress, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship challenges, or feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns. You may find yourself overthinking, emotionally exhausted, disconnected from the present, or constantly putting pressure on yourself just to keep up. Therapy can help you slow down, better understand yourself, regulate emotions more effectively, and change patterns to create a greater sense of balance, clarity, and connection in your life. I help clients gain self-awareness, manage anxiety and overwhelm, regulate emotions, improve relationships, and break free from unhelpful patterns. Therapy can help you feel more grounded, present, competent, and connected in your daily life. Therapy offers a space to reflect, feel understood, and reconnect with yourself in a more meaningful way. I create a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you can openly explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences and work to make lasting change.
Our first session is all about getting to know you, what inspired you to seek therapy, identifying goals for treatment, and building a foundation. I understand that in the first session, while I am a licensed professional, I'm a new person to you and we don't yet know each other. Part of the first session includes getting to know what I can do to make you feel comfortable working with me. We will go over your expectations for treatment and your expectations for me, as well as my expectations for you. All of this information gathered in the first session will help me create a personalized plan to guide us as we work together. Sometimes I assign therapy homework to complete between sessions. This can help us maximize our time working together.
I believe therapy should feel collaborative, supportive, and personalized to you; not cold, clinical, or one-size-fits-all. Therapy isn't about finding the “best” modality. It's about finding the best approach for you. Every person walks into therapy with a different history, personality, nervous system, and set of goals. That means the same intervention won't work equally as well for everyone. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, I take an intentionally integrative approach; drawing from multiple evidenced-based treatments in a thoughtful, purposeful way to create therapy that’s personalized, flexible, and grounded in research. Depending on your goals, our work may include changing unhelpful thought patterns, learning practical coping skills, building psychological flexibility, processing difficult experiences, strengthening self-compassion, understanding different “parts” of yourself, or creating meaningful behavioral change. Every intervention has a purpose; and every recommendation is based on where you are in your journey. My foundation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and we likely won’t stay just within this one framework. I thoughtfully integrate concepts and interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based approaches, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, bibliotherapy, psychodynamic therapy, and parts work when they support your goals. Rather than following a rigid formula, I continually assess what is most likely to help you make meaningful progress while staying grounded in evidenced-based care. The most effective therapy is both scientifically grounded and thoughtfully personalized. At the end of the day, I care far more about finding the approach that helps you move forward than about limiting your work to a single school of thought.
I enjoy working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, obsessive compulsive disorder, and unhealthy relationship patterns. Many of my clients come to therapy because they're feeling stuck in cycles of overthinking, self-doubt, people pleasing, or fear that interferes with living the life they want. Whether you are navigating intrusive thoughts, striving for impossible standards, or finding yourself in recurring relational dynamics, I provide a supportive, evidence-based approach to help you gain insight, build resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to help you break unhelpful patterns, regain a sense of control, and feel like you have your life back.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we'll identify unhelpful patterns and build practical skills to create lasting change. This may include challenging cognitive distortions, examining the evidence behind anxious or negative thoughts, reframing unhelpful beliefs, practicing behavioral activation, tracking patterns through thought logs, and incorporating gratitude and other coping strategies.
Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)
I use exposure and response prevention to help treat OCD and exposure therapy to help clients overcome anxiety by gradually facing feared situations in a safe, supportive, and personalized way. Together we'll create a plan that moves at a pace that feels challenging yet manageable. Through repeated practice, you learn to tolerate discomfort without relying on compulsions or avoidance, helping anxiety lose its grip over time. When appropriate, I also offer real world exposures, such as meeting at a grocery store, the beach, or other anxiety provoking locations, so you can build confidence where it matters most. My goal is to help you discover that you are more capable than anxiety or OCD want you to believe.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use acceptance and commitment therapy to help clients build a healthier relationship with their thoughts and emotions rather than feeling controlled by them. Together, we'll practice mindfulness skills to increase awareness of the present moment, create space for difficult emotions without avoiding them, and learn to observe thoughts as mental events rather than absolute truths. We'll also explore your core values and identify meaningful actions that align with the life you want to live, helping you move forward with greater flexibility, resilience, and purpose.
Psychodynamic
I use psychodynamic therapy concepts to help clients gain insight into the deeper patterns that shape their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors. Together, we'll create a safe, supportive space for honest self-expression while exploring how past experiences and early life relationships may be influencing your present-day challenges. Depending on your needs, we may use interventions such as exploring recurring patterns, emotional conflicts, and dream analysis to increase self-awareness, promote healing, and foster lasting personal growth.

I always feel so comforted and safe speaking with Marlie. Even when I know a topic is hard, her warm nature makes me open and honest, helping her guide me to find a solution. I can't say enough about how much therapy with Marlie has helped me be more empathic and compassionate, like I strive to be.
