New to Grow
I have over 20 years of experience as a former Army Chaplain and mental health counselor working with soldiers and military families with the whole spectrum of clinical and community care needs affecting this population. My counseling experience focused specifically on short-term acute needs, long-term couples therapy, trauma /grief, and spiritual care. I have seen the amazing life-changing benefits that empathetic and concerted holistic counseling care bring towards better life adjustment and long-term personal healing.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session is all about getting to know each other, building effective inter-personal rapport, and forming a great therapeutic alliance. We will also focus on what you want to accomplish in our therapeutic journey.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am a very non-judgmental, empathetic, active listener. I am a Solution-Focused informed counselor using a "leads from behind" counseling approach, recognizing the client is the expert of their own lives. I am there to encourage and help the client use the internal tools they already have and to develop new ones to achieve good personal mental health.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
If you are alive, you have great hopes and dreams. I want to work with those who want a healthy change in their lives, who are willing to put the work into making the change, with me as their counselor.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I primarily conduct couples sessions using Emotionally Focused Therapy. I find this method most effective in couples to be able to access the underlying unmet emotional needs driving unhealthy surface level behaviors that keep relationships stuck. This method also promotes healthy interactive couples dialogue and empathy skills.
Christian Counseling
From my 20 years of pastoral experience as an Army Chaplain, I have seen the outstanding value of promoting spiritual fitness and incorporating faith-based practices as a fundamental pillar to holistic health. This method underscores the importance of answering the most important existential questions of my identity and my place in this world.
EMDR
As a former Army Chaplain and mental health provider, much of my counseling care focused on trauma and grief care. EMDR helps the brain process difficult and traumatizing experiences, to reduce their emotional impact, and to promote long-lasting healing.
