MaDonna Moss
Good day to you and welcome. I have worked for hospice and Project Aids Care and with Veterans in Home-Based Primary Care in the capacity of supporting people in identifying their health goals and end-of-life plans.
Most people call me Donna and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working with chronically or terminally ill clients for about 20 years.
For all those years I was going into peoples homes to figure out what choices they wanted to make and goals they wanted to achieve in the future that was ahead. We can identify options and resources that will help you through it. You will hopefully leave each session with a better understanding of what you're facing medically and personally and then begin to develop a plan and an evolution in perspective moving forward.
First session
We will start where you want to start from. I often turn to timeless wisdom for guidance in how to proceed in the everyday-ness of life.
Strengths
I have also written a handbook on Caregiving called "Caregiving- If you think you might not get through it- just keep reading", which I hope to publish soon. It is about caring for a loved one at the end-of-life while on hospice.
Ideal clients
Should you receive a challenging medical diagnosis or have an acute health event maybe talking about it with an emotionally neutral person outside of your immediate family and friends can help!! I tend to be direct and methodical about my feedback to clients. Providing education about areas that impact healthcare services and outcomes can be helpful for decision-making and also for supporting a positive perspective.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Once you feel comfortable sharing your issues and insight with me- We can begin to figure out how you might come to feel that the direction of your life is now heading more in the path of your choosing. Heading in a direction that is consistent with your goals and dreams and values. My training is in Thanatology (the study of death and dying) and I am very familiar with medical diagnoses and health trajectories associated with chronic and terminal illness. I will commit to walking along side you with only the hope of providing support and caring for as long as you find it helpful. This self-analyzing work is not easy-- but it will help to bounce your thoughts off of someone else to make sure that what you are thinking makes the most sense and is grounded in practicality. We will use the principles of ACT to examine how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact and then use that knowledge to help you lead a more relaxed, less stressful life while prioritizing being as present-minded as possible. Talking to family is also very helpful but sometimes it can be riddled with complex emotional dynamics flowing both ways that can hinder clear and elucidating interchange. If you have a chronic or terminal illness diagnosis and or have recently been admitted to hospice I would be delighted to lend a hand when you need one. All the best to you !!
