Carol Waldenburg

(she/her)27 years of experience

Hello, I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida with over 25 years of experience as a professional therapist. I have a master's in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University (FL), and a master's in Divinity from Duke University (NC) with a concentration in pastoral care and counseling. I believe that trust and compassion are key elements in the psychotherapeutic relationship - and it is a collaborative relationship where goals are set by both client and therapist.

First session

Our first session will include general introductions to one another and the therapeutic process. I will inquire about the reason why you are interested in therapy - whether it was a referral or an independent decision, symptoms you may be experiencing, some background information, and general information about your life. It will not just be question and answer but a diving and digging into the matters you come with.

Strengths

I am a respected member of the psychotherapeutic community with years of experience and a great educational background and a great experience. I have been a client myself and know the fears and challenges of this - I have great compassion for those who embark on this journey.

Ideal clients

I work with clients towards better mental health in general specifically through highly interactive sessions often with support in between sessions if needed. Engagement in therapy is equal between myself and my clients and is grounded in mutual respect and concern. Clients come to me to work on a myriad of issues including depression, dissociation, anxiety, faith issues, LGBTQ+ issues, bipolar disorder and other chronic mental health illnesses, grief and loss, rape and domestic violence including incest, women's issues, chronic illness, school and employment difficulties, and more.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I meet clients where they are in their lives - whatever situation with whomever and wherever. Using CBT treatment I work with clients thoughts and behaviors. I am also influenced by Humanistic and psychodynamic theories. In these theories I am full of acceptance, compassion, and I look to a clients history to give information for the present to make changes.

Humanistic

This modality stresses accepting people where they are with unconditional acceptance and genuine empathy.

Faith-based therapy

If faith is an important factor in a client's world then we can use that in the healing process.

Psychodynamic

Sometimes a client wants or needs to look to the past to create changes in the present.
