Hi! My name is Paola. I am a licensed mental health counselor and have been working in the mental health field at various capacities since 2012. I received my master's degree from Florida Atlantic University and I have been working with clients in private practice since 2021. I help adults struggling with alcoholism/addiction, anxiety, and mood disorders with evidenced-based techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and person-centered therapy.
During our first session, I will encourage you to ask any questions you may have about me or the therapy process in general. It serves as an opportunity to get to know eachother and once you are comfortable I will ask you to share what urged you to seek therapy. I like to ask client's what they feel is most important for me to know about them to be able to help and understand them in the best way possible.
My greatest strengths as a mental health counselor include my natural abilities to see each of my clients as unique beings struggling to overcome possibly the most difficult experience of their life. I have wanted to be a therapist since I was a teenager and I have never once doubted that this career was meant for me. My dedication to helping people navigate life's challenges is what makes me good at what I do. I believe in therapy at it's core as a tool to help clients achieve wellness.
I love working with clients who recognize that there is something they need to change about their life but they just don't know where to start. Clients that I enjoy working with have realized that their struggles with mental health are negatively impacting their relationships, career, or even their physical health. I like working with clients who view the therapeutic relationship as a team as we are both working together to identify and overcome the barriers to wellness that they have in their lives.
CBT provides the client and therapist with a glimpse into the client's negative thought patterns and how these irrational thoughts influence their feelings and behaviors. By identifying negative thoughts I teach the client how to reframe them be to more realistic and have a positive impact on feelings, behaviors, and overall mental health.
Person-centered therapy is an approach I integrate throughout all of my sessions as it is the basis of how I believe therapy should be practiced. By providing my clients with unconditional positive regard it creates a safe environment for the client and therapist to communicate with trust, empathy, and compassion through the treatment process.
