New to Grow
As a licensed psychologist with a background in yoga and aerial arts I bring a unique and creative approach to therapy. I believe strongly in mindfulness-based interventions as a path to healing, while also honoring each client's individual path. As such I am very integrative and may incorporate several approaches such as MBCT, ACT, interpersonal, and solution-focused. I have been practicing for over 20 years but consider myself a seeker and constant learner which I believe is important to keep the therapy process from becoming stale.
For a first session I like to conduct a thorough intake so that I can get to really know you, your background, and your story (as much as I can in 1 hour anyway!) If appropriate and time permits I will start offering some feedback and direction at the end. We will collaboratively work to define your goals and decide on a path forward.
With a down-to-earth style I work to balance holding a safe space while also facilitating growth. I believe insight is important but not sufficient for change. In other words, it is important to understand why certain patterns may have developed but equally important to figure out what to do with them in the present moment. In that vein I often say that we will dip our toes in the past but focus mostly on the present and what you can do to reach your goals.
Someone who has found it hard to experience joy and feels like they are just going through the motions. They want to rediscover their zest for life and believe just talking about their problems isn't enough. They are ready for action and are looking for real life skills they can use to help themselves think, feel, and live better. They appreciate a holistic and creative approach to therapy.
There are numerous benefits to practicing mindfulness as a lot of our suffering comes from being too much in the past or future. We will work to get you more present and better able to regulate emotions.
Our thoughts greatly influence how we feel so we can work to address negative or irrational thoughts that contribute to your suffering.
