Walt Hirtzel

46 years of experience

About me

Over 46 years of psychotherapeutic practice for several prestigious agencies, clinics and hospitals as well as maintaining a private practice. I am an Honorable discharged veteran of the Viet Nam war and have completed several years of personal psychoanalytical treatment that has proven to be a valuable asset for my role as a therapist. Also, my professional career is unblemished and reflects an additional license to supervise other professionals. My clinical training throughout the years encompasses training sessions with reputable mental health personalities such as Dr. Albert Ellis and Dr. Stanton Samenow. I have always prided myself on participating in maintaining clinical supervision of my casework with long-time colleagues. Treatment is offered for children (ages 12 and above) to adults, sexual orientation is all-inclusive, marital and family. As time permits, I have also volunteered to offer select lectures on such subjects as 'Inside the Criminal Mind'; Transference and Countertransference I am confident that I have experience in working with every kind of human suffering and level of emotional conflict.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

While it is understandable that not every session will leave an individual feeling a sense of happiness or even relief, the overall process is driven toward achieving the established goals and objectives set forth by both you and me. As a philosophy that I have long practiced "Being where the client is at" remains a reliable approach to building a positive therapeutic relationship. I suggest that during our initial meeting, you should consider whether or not your 'gut feeling' says that you feel comfortable talking to me and we can work together. Sessions will be provided at least 1 time per week and anything less is not particularly effective.

The treatment methods and tools I utilize

One unique advantage to committing to selecting me as your therapist is that I will allow each of my clients an opportunity to call me on my cell phone in the event of a crisis, no matter what time of day. This agreement can be a link towards critical interventions and comes with some rules attached. This is a special commitment created for 'DBT' parameters for those who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder. It is not taken lightly. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy(DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, PsyhoAnalytical treatment( not readily applied due to length of time), TruThought Criminal Approach and Motivational Interviewing.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I love my profession and have years of memorable Client experiences and successes. As I once told my father, who asked me why I chose this profession: "The people that I work with may appear to be broken, but they want to get better!" This is most rewarding. I strive to find a unique and positive essence within and build upon that.
