LPC, 8 years of experience
Being your authentic self in this world can be hard, but it is possible. Often times we have systems weighing us down that get in the way of that process. I want to guide you on your journey of self-discovery and help you recognize your own strengths. My wish is for you to find support and become more empowered. Counseling is one way you can begin to work through these challenges and in a way is a first step in self-advocacy. It offers an outside perspective and a type of scaffolding as you build yourself up. Communication, stress management and dealing with the intensity of daily emotions can be overwhelming, especially when you realize that your brain is considered different from the “default.” As a counselor, I believe that when lived experience is combined with formal schooling the results can create a better connection. Let’s work together on goals that you find important, because you know yourself better than anyone else! If you are ready to schedule you can click on the book now button.
Rapport building and setting tentative goals together. I also want to know if you are new to counseling. Before our first session, I also believe it is important to conduct a brief consultation to ensure I have the potential of being a good match for you. If you decide to book, you can choose to do this via email or phone.
I have worked in community mental health, school settings. outpatient, partial and even in substance abuse for a few years; so I have real world knowledge. I might have majored in clinical mental health counseling, but I also know that life is not a book. I have been in the role of client myself and I believe that in order for a therapist to really understand the healing journey, that they should be on one themselves, however that may look. I'm also neurodivergent, and I often find this helps me understand ND folks better. In fact, I think this helps me be more in tune to subtle emotional shifts and pattern recognition in sessions. But I will also be the first to tell you when I don't know an answer and try to direct you to resources or people who know more than I do; because no one knows everything.
Adults especially members of the LGBTQ+ community and neurodivergent folks.

Julie is the best therapist I have ever had by far. I have been working with them for about three years now. they challenge me to be the best version of my self, care about me deeply, and they meet my needs, and they ask me what my needs are each session rather than just assuming. Julie has also been a HUGE part of my accepting and embracing my identity as a queer and autistic person. I am so thankful for them. The work I have done with Julie had saved my life.
I approach each client as an individual, respecting their needs and boundaries. I ask open ended questions about individuals experiences to better understand their life story. I want to learn what each part of their identity means for them, because I cannot define this for them.
I think it's important for everyone to be able to recognize the small ways they are already showing themselves compassion so we can expand on this together in sessions. Cultivating compassion, is important because it helps us realize that we are human and being human means being imperfect while also being open and curious to learning. Too often we are conditioned to be critical of ourselves.
I cannot call myself a purist in any way as a counselor, I tend to borrow from DBT, CBT and mindfulness based approaches mostly. Lately, I've even become interested in learning more about basic somatic skills to use with clients. I tend to use a lot of psychoeducation too. I also use videos or handouts to help clients better understand things like the nervous system or the window of tolerance better.
