(she/her)
Welcome, I am Trisha Newland, LISW-S and I am glad you are here. Seeking support takes courage, and my goal is to provide a warm, respectful, and non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences. In our work together, we will focus on understanding what is bringing you to counseling and identifying the goals that are most meaningful to you. I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to build insight, develop practical coping strategies, and strengthen your ability to navigate life's challenges. You deserve a therapist who listens deeply, speaks honestly, and holds space for all that you are. If you are ready to begin a journey toward healing and self-discovery, I would be honored to work with you.
During our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other and exploring what brings you to counseling. You can expect a supportive, non-judgmental space where you are free to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. I may ask questions about your current concerns, background, and goals so I can better understand how to support you. We will also review confidentiality, answer any questions you have about the counseling process, and begin to identify what you hope to gain from our work together. The first session is primarily about building comfort and understanding your needs so that we can develop a plan that feels helpful and meaningful to you.
What sets my practice apart is my belief in meeting people where they are—offering not just professional guidance but a genuine human connection. My approach is compassionate, trauma-informed, and focused on helping you reconnect with your strengths while creating meaningful and lasting change. Whether you’re seeking support for healing, personal growth, or simply need someone to talk to, I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is a structured, goal-oriented approach that helps client's to identify and challenge negative thought patterns that influence emotions and behaviors. In session, I assist clients to recognize distorted thinking- such as catastrophizing and all-or-nothing- and replace these patterns with more balanced, realistic perspectives.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT is a humanistic, evidence-based approach that centers on helping clients develop a healthier relationship with their emotions. In session, I create a warm, empathic environment where clients feel safe enough to access deeper emotions that may have been avoided or suppressed - such as grief, shame, fear or anger.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-Informed Care is a therapeutic approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on a person's mental, emotional, and physical well-being, and integrates this understanding into every aspect of treatment. In session, I prioritize creating a safe, predictable and empowering environment where clients feel in control of their own healing process.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Therapy is an approach that integrates mindfulness practices - such as medication, breathing exercises, and present moment awareness - into the process to help clients develop a more conscious and non-judgmental relationship with their thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. In session, I help guide clients in learning to observe their inner experiences without immediately reacting to or being overwhelmed by them. This can be helpful in breaking the cycles of rumination and emotional reactivity.
Mind-body approach
The Mind-body approach recognizes the deep interconnection between our physical and psychological states, working from the principle that emotional experiences are not only processed in the mind but in the body as well. In session, I provide education on body awareness, breathing patterns, somatic movement, and other pathways to experience emotional healing.
