New to Grow
Hi, I'm Mariam :) I'm a Queer, biracial neurodiverse therapist (AuDHD) who grew up overseas (Africa, Europe, Asia). I work with folks of all backgrounds and have extensive experience working with(in) LGBTQIA+, BIPOC and Neurodiverse communities. I specialize in working with late‑diagnosed ADHD and folks experiencing anxiety (perfectionism, self-criticism) who are tired of holding everything together on the outside while feeling overwhelmed on the inside. Life can start to feel like a performance, overthinking interactions, and running on empty. In our sessions, we’ll slow things down, map out the patterns that keep you stuck (e.g. people‑pleasing, procrastination, or all‑or‑nothing thinking), and build practical tools you can actually use in daily life. I also often work with folks on aspects of identity (ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc.) - for example the experience of the "in between" being biracial/multiracial. My style is warm, affirming and collaborative: we’ll set clear goals together, check in regularly about what’s working, and adjust as we go so therapy feels useful, not just heavy. We’ll focus on reducing anxiety, softening perfectionism, and helping you feel more grounded, self‑compassionate and in control of your own story.
Sessions are typically 50-55 minutes, with our first session (intake) expected to take our full hour. In our first sessions we will collaboratively develop a treatment plan to clarify your therapy goals. We will get to know one another and ensure we are a great fit to work together, clarify our cancelation/re-schedule policy, confirm our regular meeting time, etc. It's helpful to know if you select a time to meet for our first session it will likely be the time we consistently meet (versus meeting at different times each week). In rare cases if we find we aren't the best fit to work together (scheduling challenges, your needs are outside my scope of practice, etc.), I'm happy to support you in taking steps to find a great fit!
I strive to be honest and direct, while also kind and compassionate. I have received feedback from many clients they feel they are able to "be genuine in therapy" and "it feels real". An honest and respectful relationship is so helpful to our collaboration and growth. Also, I do not use AI while note-taking in session.
I am best positioned to serve folks who concerns or therapy goals focus around increasing self-awareness, improving mood and relationships, and exploring various aspects of identity. If you are open to changing things up (exploring your perspectives, behaviors, etc.), I'm here to support you getting there! I believe we can work to expand our window of tolerance to discomfort and grow beyond our previous edges (we will likely work well together if you are open to analogies and metaphor)!
Other specialties
I identify as
Attachment-based
Explore what makes you feel secure or not-so-secure in your relationships (past and present) to understand how you react to others, and what facilitates connection or disconnection.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Identify and explore your values. We tend to feel much better when we are able to take action that aligns with our values versus not.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I am certified in DBT, and can teach helpful skills to assist you in reaching your goals (how to calm ourselves in the moment in order to take a next helpful step), or work with difficult emotions.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Understanding and expressing our emotions (in-the-moment) or when post-processing something can be so helpful. Emotions are a signal and can let us know when we need to act, reflect, or step back.
Adlerian
A collaborative, goal-driven method that explores how early life experiences and beliefs influence current patterns, while supporting growth with the aim to foster connection, confidence, and purpose.
