I am a Licensed Mental Health counselor, located in Florida. I use humor and honesty and believe in the power of validation. I can help you work through common stressors such as workplace issues, relationship issues, anxiety, and figuring out who you are. I believe that you are who you are based upon your life experiences but that does not mean you can't change and be who you want to be. I can also help if you have chronic pain or medical problems. I have been living with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease (I am 54) for 10 years and I understand the challenges, both physically and mentally. The mind/body connection is real.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first full session, I will ask a lot of questions about your life/history. So I will want to know all about your family history and any trauma you may have experienced. After gathering all of that information, I will make suggestions about a course of treatment and assign any ‘homework’ if I think it will be helpful. If I see a couple, I always meet with them individually as well as together in order to get a complete assessment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Throughout my career, the things clients have said they appreciated about me is my honesty in speaking what I see/hear/believe and my sense of humor . If you aren’t laughing at some point during therapy, I believe you are doing it wrong. Empathy and validation are priceless and nothing makes me feel better than helping someone see that they are not crazy and that what they are experiencing is real. Being diagnosed with a chronic and progressive illness has made me a better counselor and I hope to assist other’s who have chronic pain or health issues.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

If you can’t change a situation you can change the way you THINK about the situation. This gives you more of a sense of control in our lives. Cognitive Therapy has helped dozens of clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll use CBT to first discover how much energy you waste trying to control the uncontrollable and then recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.
