Hi there. My name is Jennifer. My current experience is as a licensed professional counselor & certified rehabilitation counselor. Telehealth is my jam. Surviving, thriving, and living my disabled life. My previous work experiences include working as a counselor in the following settings: private practice, in-home counseling, inpatient hospice care, as a special education teacher in the public school system, and as a hatha yoga/meditation teacher. I enjoy reading a lot. There always seems to be a book in hand these days (physical, audio, or digital). I'm a strong lover of black coffee. I enjoy writing, gardening, photography, walks, being out in nature, adaptive exercise/hiking, and playing puzzle/exploration video games, and board games.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we'll talk about what brought you into counseling. Discussing your concerns/challenges. To find out what goals you want towards and how you want to get there. Also, we will discuss how therapy will go each week.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My counseling style is a warm, person-centered, nonjudgmental, and integrative approach. To healing & change, observation & action, and connection to self & others. All of us experience struggles & suffering in our lives. The focus is to acknowledge what is going on in your life while working towards change from a place of compassion. Focusing on your strengths.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Chronic pain/illness and disability including caregiver support, women's concerns, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, trauma, stress, 2SLGBGTQ+, coping skills, self-esteem, codependency, gender & sexuality, sex & intimacy, and nonmonogamous relationships.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance, or what I like to call "acknowledgment," is something we have to come to a place for. Whether we want to or not, we have to see where we are "stuck." From that place, we can move with our values. Values are what we hold dear and care about the most. Moving from inflexible movement to flexible lifestyle.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-centered therapy is the nucleus point for all other therapy modalities I use. It is the center that branches out. You come in as someone seeking out help. There is no hierarchical structure between you and me. We are at the same level because you are giving me permission to be on this journey with you.

Eclectic

To see what can be learned and integrated into your life. Incorporating various therapy modalities. Why? There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Observing what you are dealing with from a multifaceted perspective. Meeting you where you are and working together towards insight and understanding.

Humanistic

My bachelor's degree is in humanistic psychology. It is one of the reasons that I went to this university. To focus on your needs and how we work together to reach your fullest potential. Working with your strengths. Building upon them.

Trauma Informed Care

Whether it is Big-T trauma, small-t trauma, or cumulative trauma, we are affected by this. We work collaboratively to process the trauma. And to live your best life possible. Different practices are offered to help you (breathing and somatic) drop in.
