New to Grow
Hello, I'm Marianne. I've been providing online therapy for five years. My previous experience includes inpatient and outpatient care, group and individual therapy, and working closely with a psychiatrist. I find online therapy as effective as in person and much more convenient for my clients. I am an independently licensed counselor in the state of Ohio (LPCC) which means I diagnosis and treat.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
We will have a conversation that answers: What is bringing you to therapy at this time? What goals, in general, do you want to accomplish through therapy? We will talk about your background; where you grew up and who you grew up with, exploring the journey that brought you to where you are now. While we may touch on traumas you may have experienced, we will not be deep diving. I will also explain the approach I bring to therapy and answer any questions about the therapeutic process you may have.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My greatest strength is in providing a safe place for difficult conversations. I listen with empathy and respect, and when appropriate, I gently and directly challenge beliefs or patterns that are not conducive to good mental health. This provides you a place to grow and heal.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Life's biggest challenges such as job loss, divorce, loss of a loved one, legal and health issues and even joyous occasions like welcoming a new baby to the family can be overwhelming. We often cope with life's instabilities, anxiety and/or depression for years until suddenly, we can't. Perhaps personal issues become too much or the world around us becomes unstable. It's during these times that the coping skills we once relied on seem to fail us. By working together, we can develop effective ways to manage life's challenges.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I explain the concepts of Cognitive Behavioral therapy early in our therapy relationship and guide clients in noticing how thoughts, emotions and behaviors interact and affect one another and how to challenge and change these processes.
Psychoeducation
I believe it is important to gain an understanding of what is happening in our brain and body. Challenges like an anxiety attack become less scary if we understand what is happening when our fight or flight response is triggered. Equally important is learning how to manage the physical signs of anxiety so that other methodology, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, can be utilized.
Supportive
Focusing on developing a safe environment for clients is the core of my approach. I create a warm and welcoming space for you to share some of the most difficult situations, events, emotions and thoughts you experience in your life.
