New to Grow
Hi, I’m Ugonna Love, a licensed school counselor, therapist, and doctoral student passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families. My work is rooted in person-centered and child-centered play therapy approaches, where I create a warm, affirming space for clients to feel heard, valued, and understood. I specialize in working with children navigating trauma, life transitions, behavioral challenges, and family changes. My goal is to partner with you in building emotional awareness, resilience, and confidence while honoring your unique story and strengths.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During our first session, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where we begin getting to know one another. I will ask questions about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any important background information that helps me better understand your experiences. For children, the first session may include play-based activities to help them feel comfortable and safe. We will also review confidentiality, answer any questions you may have, and collaboratively discuss next steps. My goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and hopeful about the work we will do together.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What stands out most about my therapeutic approach is my ability to create a safe, affirming space where clients feel genuinely seen and understood. I integrate person-centered principles with child-centered play therapy and trauma-informed practices, allowing clients to move at their own pace while building emotional awareness and resilience. As both a school counselor and therapist, I bring a strong understanding of child development, family systems, and the impact of life transitions. Clients often appreciate my calm presence, empathy, and ability to balance warmth with practical tools that support meaningful growth.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work with women navigating life transitions, identity shifts, and emotional overwhelm—including those experiencing postpartum changes, motherhood adjustments, fertility challenges, and other women-specific concerns. Whether you're feeling anxious, depleted, disconnected, or unsure of yourself in this season, I provide a supportive space to process, heal, and rebuild confidence. I also work with children and adolescents who may be struggling with big emotions, behavioral challenges, anxiety, family transitions, or social difficulties. Using play therapy and developmentally appropriate approaches, I help young clients express themselves, build emotional regulation skills, and feel more secure and understood. Across all ages, I’m best positioned to support clients who are ready to explore patterns, strengthen coping tools, and move toward healthier relationships—with themselves and others.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I utilize a person-centered approach by creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and accepted. Grounded in empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity, I trust in each client’s innate capacity for growth and self-direction. Rather than leading with advice, I focus on deep listening, reflective responses, and emotional attunement to help clients increase self-awareness, strengthen self-trust, and move toward meaningful change at their own pace.
