Stacy Wheat
I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, a mom, and a lifelong advocate for compassionate, patient-centered care. I hold master’s degrees in both education and nursing, and my background as a former teacher gives me a unique ability to connect with children and families. My experiences as both a mother and an educator allow me to bring empathy, insight, and a practical perspective to the care I provide. I work with individuals across the lifespan, treating a wide range of mental health concerns including substance use disorders, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, behavioral challenges, ADHD, and other psychiatric needs. I am passionate about helping patients feel understood, supported, and empowered as they navigate their mental health journey.
As a mother, former teacher, and spouse of a combat veteran, I understand the complexities of family dynamics, stress, resilience, and the real-life challenges many individuals face.
First session
During our first session, you can expect a comprehensive and collaborative evaluation. We will review your general medical and mental health history, as well as discuss your current concerns, symptoms, and goals for treatment. I will work with you to explore possible diagnoses and provide clear explanations, and together we will review appropriate treatment options, which may include therapy, medication, or a combination of approaches. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and actively involved in your care.
Strengths
What stands out about my therapeutic approach is the perspective I bring from both my professional training and personal life experiences. As a mother, former teacher, and spouse of a combat veteran, I understand the complexities of family dynamics, stress, resilience, and the real-life challenges many individuals face. My background in education also allows me to break down complex mental health concepts into practical, relatable strategies that patients can apply in their daily lives. Additionally, having lived and worked abroad, I bring a broader cultural awareness and sensitivity to my practice, which helps me connect with patients from diverse backgrounds. I strive to create a nonjudgmental, supportive environment where patients feel safe to be open and honest. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on helping individuals feel understood, empowered, and capable of making meaningful changes.
Ideal clients
I work with patients across the lifespan, providing care to children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. My practice addresses a wide range of mental health concerns, including mood disorders, depression, autism, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, behavioral challenges, and other psychiatric needs. I strive to tailor treatment to each individual’s developmental stage, cultural background, and unique circumstances to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to help patients identify and challenge maladaptive thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and behavioral difficulties. I work collaboratively with patients to develop practical coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, and promote healthier thinking styles. By focusing on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, I support patients in building resilience and achieving meaningful, sustainable changes in their mental health.
Psychoeducation
In my practice, I use psychoeducation as a foundational tool to help patients better understand their diagnoses, symptoms, and treatment options. I provide clear, individualized information about how mental health conditions affect thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, which empowers patients to take an active role in their care. By normalizing experiences and teaching practical skills—such as recognizing triggers, understanding medication effects, and developing healthy routines—I help patients build insight, reduce stigma, and feel more confident in managing their mental health.
