Communication skills are my greatest strength. It is one of the reasons why I decided on mental health as my healthcare field. Well balanced communication with my patients is the key here. I try to understand them before I can treat them with medication as the last resort in. Being patience is my strong point as well, and I see it as vital, considering that mental health problems often take years to address and heal.
Being a Nurse Practitioner is more than assessing, diagnosing, and prescribing medications for my patients; it is about genuinely bonding with my patients and understanding their physical and mental health issues. I plan to be an active listener, easy to talk to, have an open mind, and be nonjudgmental to each patient. I am providing holistic patient care because I recognize physical health's impact on mental well-being.
