Maryna Little
I have approximately 25 years in the social work/ therapy field. I have worked with clients of all ages to include children and elders. I have worked in many different environments to include directly in client homes, schools, hospitals, group homes, shelters, and community clinics. Since 2016, I have been working in private practice. I am licensed in GA, FL, and NM and have worked in all of these states, as well as in PA, MD, and WV. Originally from GA, I currently live and work in NM, as well as see virtual clients in GA and FL. I have a special interest in working with trauma and that includes complex-PTSD or developmental trauma. This means that someone may have experienced ongoing and repeated trauma throughout significant parts of their life. I enjoy creating a safe and supportive environment for my clients to open up and share their experiences. I prefer working from a mind/body/spirit or integrative perspective to allow for connection to the body and a mindfulness-based or meditative approach. This also allows for the development of self-compassion and gentleness with the self, as we work towards positive change. I also work from a trauma-informed perspective that acknowleges the impact our life experiences have on our self-esteem and how we go approach life and relationships with others. Overall, I enjoy helping my clients realize their strengths and potential and aid them in learning new coping skills, healthy habits, and communication skills that improve their quality of life.
First session
In our first session, I will listen to what your thoughts, feelings, and concerns are and what is bringing you to therapy. I will bring a curiosity and openness to getting to know you on a personal level and what your expectations are for therapy. I will answer any questions that you may have about our process together.
Strengths
I bring compassionate care to my clients and a passion for the therapeutic process. I believe that we all need to be seen, heard, and validated and that those things go a long way towards healing. I look forward to bringing support and enthusiasm to our therapeutic relationship and look forward to being a witness to your positive change.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to learn and willing and open to try new coping skills and approaches in therapy. I work well with those experiencing challenges with mood, anxiety, and attention or behavioral concerns and those wanting to make actionable steps towards change and healthier lifestyle habits and relationships.
Treatment methods
Compassion-Focused
I utilize a compassionate focused approach that allows for unconditional support and a non-judgemental approach that also encourages self-compassion and mindful observation and care for the parts of oneself that are wounded and stuck in a trauma response or old patterns of behavior. This approach allows the client to develop self-awareness and gentleness with oneself and this enables a gentler, kinder approach to positive change.
Mind-body approach
I appreciate the ability to bring in somatic based techniques like breathwork and Emotional Freedom Technique that allow for a connection to the body and its response to emotions and stress. This approach allows the client to connect with experiences and feelings that are challenging to put into words and allows a deeper experience of healing and emotional release.
Strength-Based
I like to bring out what the client enjoys and is good at as a way to navigate pathways for effective change. I find that utilizing the skills and talents of clients allows for creative avenues for change and problem-solving.
Brainspotting
I utilize Brainspotting as a way to process trauma memories and experiences. It is a valuable method for processing trauma because it allows the client to release trauma while not having to reexperience it or relive it. It allows for as much or as little talking as desired by the client, with significant emotional release and relief from symptoms that stem from trauma.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize cognitive behavioral methods to aid the client to reflect on thinking patterns that may need to be examined or reflected upon for their impact on interactions, expectations, and behaviors. Cognitive-restructuring and reframing of negative thought patterns can aid with energy and allow for more positive experiences, behaviors, and relationships with others.
