Hello, my name is Karen. I am an Independent Psychotherapist in Cincinnati, Ohio. I earned a Masters from the University of Pennsylvania through their advanced standing program in one year with a specialization on Mental Health and Addictions. Previous to that I earned a Bachelor's at Northern Kentucky University and graduated with honors. I place great pride and passion in helping individuals and couples that may be struggling with chronic stress, depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship issues, PTSD and complex trauma. My clients range in all ages and I utilize a multi-dimensional approach to the therapeutic process. I have worked with all populations providing integrated services in clinical, outpatient, inpatient, and school settings, as well as with the homeless population. I have also worked with all socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, disabilities, and religious beliefs. I wholeheartedly believe in providing a therapeutic atmosphere that offers a professional yet respectful environment where we can establish and build rapport in a trusting and safe space.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
You have already taken the biggest and bravest step in reaching out, so kudos to you! During our first session, you can expect to feel heard and validated without judgement, along with some positive feedback that will also include skills and techniques to launch you forward on your healing journey.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My biggest strength is that I meet my clients where they are, with an immense level of compassion, understanding, and care. I am very intuitive, and empathic and can utilize my own unique life experiences of hope and healing to further create a warm and nonjudgmental approach to therapy.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Individuals who struggle with low self esteem, anxiety and depression. I also specialize in substance use disorder and gambling/internet addictions. Lastly, I specialize in relationship conflicts and survivors of childhood abuse and/or females who struggle with sexual trauma and or women's issues.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT can help you to deal with problems that feel overwhelming in a more productive and positive way by identifying triggers, examining unhelpful and negative thinking patterns and behaviors, challenging negative thoughts and finding healthier coping strategies to ultimately start feeling more balanced and empowered. Unlike some other talking treatments, CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have extensive experience in utilizing DBT to assist you in developing a better understanding and acceptance of life’s challenges as well as difficult emotions. We will learn various skills to manage these feelings and work towards being able to make positive changes that are long lasting.

I felt completely comfortable the minute she said hello. Made me feel like we had known each other for years. What a great feeling to not be anxious about telling her my problems

I was really at a low point when I first reached out to Karen. She was an awesome comfort as well as straightforward with her approach and advise. I didn't feel like she was overpowering and really listened to me and offered guidance and resources that were really helpful
