Ashly Gomez-Hetherman
I’m a bilingual therapist who brings warmth, authenticity, compassion, and a little humor into every session. I help people navigate anxiety, relationships, life transitions, identity, cultural expectations, and self-worth. My approach is supportive and collaborative, while also gently challenging patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, empowered, and comfortable being fully yourself.
First session
My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, understood, and a little more hopeful about what comes next. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what feels most important right now, and what you hope to gain from our work together. I’ll meet you where you are, answer questions, and begin creating a plan that feels realistic, collaborative, and tailored to you.
Strengths
I bring warmth, honesty, and a genuine ability to meet people where they are. I’ll hold space when you need support, but I’ll also gently challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My goal is for therapy to feel safe, collaborative, culturally responsive, and focused on meaningful growth.
Ideal clients
My ideal client may be navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, cultural or family expectations, identity, or struggles with self-worth. They may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves and are ready to better understand their patterns, strengthen their confidence, and make meaningful changes. I work best with clients who want a supportive space but are also open to reflection, honesty, and gentle challenge.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help you notice the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we’ll identify patterns that may be increasing anxiety, self-doubt, or stress and practice more balanced ways of responding. The goal is not to “think positively,” but to help you understand what is happening and develop tools that feel realistic and useful in everyday life.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use ACT to help you make room for difficult thoughts and emotions without letting them control your choices. We’ll explore what matters most to you, clarify your values, and work toward actions that feel more aligned with the life and relationships you want. This approach can be especially helpful when you feel stuck fighting thoughts or feelings you cannot simply make disappear.
Compassion Focused
I use compassion-focused therapy to help you develop a kinder, more supportive relationship with yourself, especially when you struggle with self-criticism, shame, or feeling like you are never doing enough. Together, we’ll work on understanding where those patterns come from and practicing ways to respond to yourself with more patience, balance, and self-respect.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
I use culturally responsive therapy by making space for the ways culture, family, identity, language, and life experiences shape how you see yourself and the world around you. I approach these conversations with curiosity and respect rather than assumptions, and we’ll explore how cultural expectations, values, and relationships may be affecting your stress, choices, boundaries, or sense of self.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I use emotionally focused therapy to help you better understand the emotions underneath your reactions, patterns, and relationships. Together, we’ll explore what you may be needing, fearing, or protecting yourself from so you can respond with greater awareness and feel more secure in yourself and your relationships. The goal is to help you feel more connected, understood, and able to communicate your needs in healthier ways.
