Hi, I'm Susan Maehre, a Licensed Professional Counselor. If you are feeling overwhelmed, are struggling with anxiety, depression, and relationships, or are grieving over a loss or multiple losses, I would be happy to work with you in a safe and comfortable environment.
I don't push religion, but if they seek spiritual guidance that is something I am comfortable with and again, not in a pushy way, but following their lead.
I have been counseling for 23 years, and enjoy working with clients regarding their challenges and concerns. I have had experience working with grief recovery, anxiety, depression, marital concerns, and other issues. Seeking therapy can feel scary but you should be proud of yourself for reaching out. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and together we will figure out ways to grow, heal, and work towards a fulfilling life.
First session
Establish rapport in a confidential environment, find empathy and understanding, and a willingness to listen and respond; also, if needed, talk together about managing emotions and/or difficult situations, and find hope for the present and the future.
Strengths
I enjoy helping clients process their pain, and find relief. I think I have a gift for walking through the grief process with people but once any issue is presented, I join the person amidst their pain and together we explore ways to find relief and promote peace and growth.
Ideal clients
Those interested in personal growth and improving relationships. Also, clients who need relief from grief, sorrow, disappointment, and emotional pain, who are eager for a more peaceful and joyful life. Also welcome are issues involving faith or spiritual direction.

I support my clients through active listening, responding with empathy, use of helping skills, and emotionally-focused techniques. I find it rewarding to work with grieving clients, and also have some skills for counseling clients regarding their relationships, and spiritual issues. I would also enjoy working with clients who want a Christian counselor, and want to grow in their relationship with God.
Compassion Focused
I have used this with grieving clients, with couples who have drifted apart, and with clients who have struggles regarding dealing with their past, and with current depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
