Website: Mentalhealthwithandrewmaihos.com (*Fully Remote and accepting Massachusetts/NH clients*) My name is Andrew (AJ) Maihos I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker practicing in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I have been working in human services since 2011 and have been practicing as a counselor since 2016. I have worked in a wide variety of settings including schools, prisons, substance abuse treatment facilities, and mental health centers. I have experience working with all age groups and a wide variety of mental health/substance use disorders. I would describe myself as non-judgmental, easy going, and empathetic. I greatly value accountability, candor, and self-reflection in the treatment process.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My intake process is simple and straightforward. The first step is to send me an email requesting intake paperwork. Once the intake paperwork is completed we can schedule an intake session. Progress can look like many different things, including a kinder narrator, better coping strategies, improved objectiveness skills, or better insight into mental health. I often assign homework to clients to promote accountability and keep our work together fresh between sessions. I enjoy working with any client who is open to taking a deeper look at themselves.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

My approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I believe in empowering my clients through examination of their internal narrative/automatic negative thinking patterns while also supporting them as they seek to examine/better understand their emotional experiences and what they mean about who they are.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Showing up everyday ready to listen is my biggest strength. Self awareness is crucial to being an effective therapist and practicing self-care consistently is what helps us to progress, grow, and achieve within our careers and our personal lives. I live the values, skills, and behaviors that I talk with my clients about and I believe in these strategies and approaches because I have seen them work.
