Sarah Brey
Hi, I’m Sarah. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), yoga teacher, and Reiki practitioner, my approach to healing is deeply rooted in the mind-body connection. I came to this work after years of teaching and navigating my own healing journey, where I learned firsthand that the body often holds what the mind tries to explain away.In our work together, we won’t just treat symptoms. We will look at how emotional trauma impacts your entire system, blocking internal peace and manifesting physically and mentally. Using a blend of Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I will help you welcome and work with all parts of yourself—not just the polished ones. Together, we will integrate mindfulness, breathwork, and deep presence to guide you back into alignment and peace.
First session
Our first session is simply a space for us to get to know each other and see if we are a good fit. Because my approach integrates the mind and the body, we will look at your history not just as a timeline of events, but as a lived experience. Using Internal Family Systems (IFS), we will begin to identify the parts of you carrying anxiety, depression, or trauma, and map out a gentle, collaborative plan to guide you back into true alignment. You don't have to show up polished—just show up as you are.
Strengths
What makes my practice unique is that I look at your healing through three distinct lenses: your story, your mind, and your body. As a former English teacher, I know how easily the mind uses language to intellectualize or explain away pain. As a yoga teacher and somatic practitioner, I know that your body holds the truth of that pain anyway.By combining the storytelling awareness of my past with the somatic depth of yoga, IFS, and ACT, I don't just treat your symptoms from the neck up. We will look at where your protective parts live in your body, move past the polished stories you tell yourself, and use mindfulness and breathwork to bring your entire system back into true, lasting alignment.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals within the LGBTQ+ community who are navigating the heavy burdens of depression, anxiety, and trauma.Living at the intersection of a marginalized identity while carrying personal or systemic trauma can often make you feel fragmented, exhausted, or like you constantly have to hide certain versions of yourself. You might find that your mind is stuck in a loop of anxious thoughts, or that depression has left you feeling disconnected from your own life. I specialize in using Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you safely explore these challenges. In our work together, we won’t view your anxiety, depression, or protective coping mechanisms as things to be aggressively fixed or forced away. Instead, through the compassionate lens of IFS, we will welcome all parts of you—even the most painful, exhausted, or unpolished ones.As a queer-affirming therapist, I provide a deeply supportive space where you don't have to explain your identity before you can start explaining your pain. Together, we will get to know the parts of you that are hurting, understand how your trauma has lived in both your story and your body, and help your system find true, unburdened relief.
Treatment methods
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Beneath all of your anxious, depressed, or traumatized parts lies your Self—the core of who you truly are. The Self is naturally calm, curious, compassionate, and connected. As a yoga teacher and therapist, my ultimate goal is to guide you back into alignment with this core Self. When your parts realize they no longer have to run the show to survive, they step back, allowing your compassionate Self to lead your life with internal peace, presence, and balance.
