About me

Hello! I’m Crystal Porter, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with many years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. My passion lies in creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or trauma related dysregulation, I provide a safe and compassionate space for healing and growth. My goal is to meet you where you are and to walk with you towards finding the hope, healing, and restoration you seek.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting counseling can feel both hopeful and uncertain—and that’s completely normal. My goal is to make your first session as welcoming and comfortable as possible. In our first meeting, we’ll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to counseling. I’ll ask questions to better understand your concerns, your background, and what you hope to gain from therapy. You don’t need to prepare anything or have all the answers—just come as you are. This session is also a chance for you to get a feel for who I am and how I work. You’re welcome to ask questions about me personally, about the counseling process, my approach, or anything else that will help you feel more at ease. Together, we’ll begin setting meaningful goals for your healing journey. Above all, expect a safe, non-judgmental space where your story is honored, your pace is respected, and you are met with compassion. From day one, my focus is to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered to move forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What sets me apart as a counselor is the way I meet each client with compassion, clarity, and deep respect for their journey. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship challenges, I offer more than tools and techniques—I offer presence, insight, and genuine partnership. Clients often tell me they feel safe, understood, and empowered in our time together. That’s because I believe healing happens through building trust and authentic connections. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. I will meet you where you are and walk with you at your own pace, offering a thoughtful balance of practical tools and heart felt emotional insight.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I’m best positioned to serve individuals who are seeking both emotional healing and personal growth, often with a desire to explore how their life experiences and mental health intersect. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted—navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-worth, or life transitions. Others are wrestling with questions of purpose, identity, or even spiritual disconnection. My approach is collaborative and compassionate. I meet clients where they are and I’m here to help you rediscover your voice, reclaim your peace, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I frequently utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a core treatment method in my work with clients. Over the years, I’ve found CBT to be an effective, structured approach that empowers individuals to identify and challenge negative thought patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and make meaningful behavioral changes that promote emotional balance.

Trauma Informed Care

My approach to Trauma-Informed Care is to recognize and respect that many individuals carry the invisible weight of past trauma into their present experiences. My training and ongoing work in this method have taught me to prioritize safety, trust, and understanding that behaviors often stem from adaptive responses to past harm. In practice, this means I intentionally create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel seen, heard, and respected. I pay close attention to triggers, boundaries, and pace-allowing clients to guide the process in a way that feels secure and empowering for them. Trauma-Informed Care isn’t just a method—it’s about meeting people where they are, honoring their resilience, and walking alongside them as they reclaim their sense of safety, identity, and wholeness.

Faith based therapy

I offer faith-based therapy for clients who desire to incorporate their spiritual beliefs—particularly Christian faith—into the healing process. My approach is rooted in the understanding that spiritual well-being and mental health are deeply interconnected. For many clients, their faith is not only a source of identity but also a foundation for hope, resilience, and restoration. In our work together, I create a space where biblical principles, prayer, and Christian values can be integrated into the therapeutic process—always at the client’s pace and comfort level. Faith-based therapy allows me to support clients not only clinically but also spiritually. My goal is to walk alongside individuals as they seek healing, offering a counseling experience that is both evidence-based and spiritually grounded. Whether you’re seeking guidance through a difficult season or looking to deepen your emotional and spiritual resilience, I’m here to help you move forward with grace, clarity, and hope.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is used in my practice to help clients build practical skills for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, and responding to stress in healthier ways. I incorporate DBT strategies such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness based on each client’s individual needs. Sessions may include identifying emotional triggers and patterns, challenging unhelpful responses, practicing grounding and coping skills, and developing more effective communication and boundary-setting.
