LPC, 24 years of experience
New to Grow
Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who has been practicing for over 24 years. I focus on helping those I work with identify their strengths and learn how to utilize those strengths to overcome their personal struggles to ultimately improve their mental health. A little about me: My name is Shelly. I’m a person that loves taking adventures with family and friends, live music and dogs! In my free time I attend concerts, especially ones at outside venues, and playing with my rescue pup, Luna who typically comes to the office with me most days.
We will spend our first session getting to know one another to determine if we will be a good fit to work together. I will be asking many questions to try to gain an understanding of your needs and you are welcome to ask me any questions you may have during this process. If we determine that we will be a good fit and want to move forward then we will work together to develop a treatment plan to fit your goals and needs.
I understand that seeking therapy can be an anxiety provoking event and I bring warmth and compassion am to our sessions to help you feel more comfortable with this experience. I utilize Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques during therapy sessions. This means we will not only focus on unpacking core beliefs that may not be serving you well but will also address daily issues that impact your mental health. I also specialize in addictions and can assist you in developing a recovery program that helps you be successful in sobriety. I am genuinely excited that you are considering therapy and am eager to meet you when you're ready.
I whole-heartedly believe that you are the expert in what you need and I will walk along side you in the journey of healing. We will work together on identifying goals on changing what is not longer working for you in your life and developing steps on how to make the necessary changes. Change can be difficult and scary and I want to support you through the process.
I primarily utilize motivational interviewing to helps clients strengthen their internal motivation to change behaviors, such as those related to addiction, health, or lifestyle. We work together to identify reasons for change by exploring one's values and core beliefs that will assist in motivating change.
I also utilize CBT to help clients identify and change negative thoughts and beliefs to work towards improving overall mental health.
