My journey back to school began with a period of self reflection where I thought about what I can offer others. As a wife, mother, classroom teacher, performing arts club founder, and day camp director I have worn many hats. Through all of these positions, I always found that my passion lay in connecting with others in creative ways, celebrating them, and helping them grow and find their strengths. Earning my Master's in Counseling and Art Therapy allowed me to focus on helping you achieve your goals and become the healthiest version of yourself possible.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Coming to counseling is a huge step that requires commitment and focus. During our first session, I want to hear what motivated you to do that and celebrate this first milestone. Hopefully, there will be many more to come. My goal will be to meet you wherever you are at and work from there. If you are ready to dive in and define goals, we will get right to it. If you prefer to get to know each other first through an activity or light discussion, we can do that too. Eventually, my hope is that you will be able to celebrate many more milestones and view your counseling sessions as a great place to always stay focused on the next one.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I believe my greatest strength as a therapist is being a natural listener who can be analytical without being judgmental. My clients come to therapy so they can speak to themselves out loud and get answers that they know are run by an objective ear while expecting complete confidentiality and acceptance. I will help you find strength you didn't know you had through creative forms of self expression and a kinder, more confident form of self awareness that allows you to look forward while fully absorbing and acknowledging all aspects of the past.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I serve families and individuals who are looking for answers and connection. I am very faith based as a person and I often connect best with those who believe in a higher power. I view therapy as a tool for personal growth and reflection that is utilized best by those who are serious about becoming the greatest version of themselves. Coming for help is a commendable first step and I applaud you for being here. If you are looking to grow, I hope I can be the right person to offer you the space and encouragement necessary for this to happen.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT, TF-CBT, DBT and EMDR are at the core of everything I do. As the most evidenced based forms of treatment, they give structure to our sessions and provide systems by which to measure success. I hold advanced training certificates in all of these forms of therapy and continue to seek guidance and do research in these areas on a regular basis.
Gestalt
I hold a master's in Art Therapy and incorporate many forms of Gestalt therapy in my work. Specifically, I focus on helping my clients build a narrative in which they can look at their past as a point from which to move forward with purpose and direction. We will determine what style of self expression suits you best by creating an environment where it feels safe to explore and make decisions based on what you discover here in our sessions. This is a unique approach utilizing a blend of modalities that originate from Gestalt therapy that I used based on what is most comfortable and effective for the client. It is a blend of art, narrative, solution based and trauma informed therapy I have worked hard to develop and I have many satisfied clients who have found it extremely effective for them.
EMDR
I am trained in EMDR and continue to take courses in this area. I incorporate it when appropriate and have found it to be very effective at times.
Faith based therapy
My faith in the Almighty is a guiding factor in everything I do. I hold a BA in Judaic Studies and a teacher's certificate from Yavne Teachers College.
