I am a motivated and dependable individual with a strong appreciation for growth, healing, and progress. I enjoy learning and trying to bring a positive approach to everything I encounter in life. If you think we would be a great match to work together and when you are ready to start feeling better and leave the distressing feelings behind, I am prepared to help you! Schedule our first session and lets start on your healing journey and begin celebrating your progress together!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During the first session, I am getting to know you and your story. This is the beginning of your healing journey and I am learning everything about you. I will ask you about many different things and you can give me little detail, to a lot of detail. This is based on your comfortability levels when meeting me for the first time. I enjoy humor though, so if I think you may enjoy a laugh, I am definitely known for throwing in something to make you chuckle. It's can often be scary telling someone new about your childhood or any of the symptoms you may be experiencing, therefore, throwing in some humor can help lighten the heavier feelings that may be arising.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am a people person! I am the person you will see in public talking to the entire room. However, I can also be the one who quietly sits in the corner and listens to whoever may be needing the spotlight that moment. I follow your lead and I believe it is your journey and story to tell and at your own pace. In EMDR, I often will tell you, it's your brain healing your brain, and I am just here a long for the journey and to help the process. I will always follow your lead in healing, if that is what you need! If you tell me you need me to push you more, I will also take that approach and again, listen to what you need in session.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I am here to serve you! Whether your child is 6 years old or you are 56 years old. I am here to be your support person, and follow your lead in session.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is used to show how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors all connect. This can help with many mental health diagnoses including anxiety and depression. I personally use CBT with all age ranges from children to adolescents to adults and have used it in practice for many years. It helps parents see how children's behaviors are impacted by many different factors. It also helps adults see how their negative thoughts impacts their feelings and actions. CBT can be a very eye-opening and rewarding therapy!
EMDR
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized treatment to help decrease distressing feelings and organize overwhelming thoughts, with the use of Bilateral Stimulation (BLS). These distressing feelings and thoughts can come from many different types of incidents including trauma experiences. I used EMDR in session with children, adolescents, and adults. I have been trained in EMDR since June 2024 and have seen incredible healing experiences from children who are suffering from different diagnoses. For example, if a child is experiencing intense anxiety due to a certain medical incident that happened years ago, I would use EMDR to bring those distressing feelings down, causing the intense anxiety to decrease. EMDR is not for everyone and a screen process takes place to make sure you are a good candidate for EMDR. One possibility for BLS over telehealth includes you using an eye moving website that allows you to follow the ball on the screen. EMDR is also useful when you are having a difficult time talking about the details of your trauma experience. Let's chat and see if EMDR is right for you!
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is extremely important to help you understand your diagnoses better and why you are experiencing certain symptoms. This is also useful when working with parents and children and how the parent can help the child and help themselves with their own coping skills, emotional regulation etc. More education about anything can be very beneficial and sometimes rewarding!
Child Parent Psychotherapy
Parenting is a significantly important part of counseling children. It is difficult to work with just a 5 year old who hits, yells, screams, etc. when the parents do all three of those behaviors as well and aren't willing to recognize it and help change themselves to help change some of the child's behaviors as well. Using emotion words in the home and using positive talk and praises can be very beneficial to your child's mental health and yours as well!
Supportive
I want to be that person who can help your mental health, to help you improve and celebrate any small progresses, but if I am just a supportive person to you, one to listen to you, and validate your feelings, and that is what you need, then I will consider this a win. Support is extremely important in healing in any way. Emotional and mental support to have someone to support you in times a distress, can be significantly important for growth and progress. If you feel unsupported in your current relationships, let's see if I can be that support person for you and your mental health!
