LMFT, 12 years of experience
Hello! I'm Cassie Ueberrhein. I commend and honor your interest in therapy. I aim to provide support, guidance and clinical insights to uphold the ways in which you wish to grow. It is important to me to facilitate a therapeutic environment that is safe and free from judgement. Decreasing stigma around mental illness as well as suicide prevention and LGBTQ+ rights are important causes to me as an individual. I am an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. I have in-depth training on LGBTQ+ treatment and I continue to humbly learn more.
My aim is to get to know my client and to start building rapport. I believe the match between therapist and client is essential in a positive therapy outcome. I am looking to begin to understand my client and identify their layers. I want to know what they are into, what they care about and clearly identify their goals for therapy. I will also of course review the confidentiality and answer any questions they may have about the process. No need to be nervous, I will not push my client to move at a pace that they are not comfortable with. I respect the need that they may have to ease into therapy and establish trust. I hope to eventually establish a rapport that allows clients to safely express vulnerability.
I bring a blend of professionalism and humanness to sessions. I do everything I can to make my clients feel heard and seen. While I am an affirming therapist, I will also be transparent about my thoughts and observations. I will tell you what I'm really thinking, no guessing work required! I'll be honest but also kind. I am open-minded, non-judgmental and flexible in adapting to client needs.
I have extensive experience working with college students, young adults and the LGBTQ+ population. I provide support to those who are adjusting to college/young adulthood and coping with depression and anxiety. I also assist individuals who are working on strengthening their identity, assertiveness, exploring their sexuality and seeking positive change in relational patterns.
My schooling is rooted in family of origin and relationships. I understand that early relationships set a template for current and future relationships. I well-versed on attachment styles and how relationships impact the individual on many levels.
I work with many people who cope with depression, anxiety and issues of self-worth. I find it meaningful and effective to approach the issue by first identifying a distorted belief and then assisting the client in better understanding where that belief was learned. I use tools like reframing, challenging and identifying catastrophizing thoughts to begin to shake the distorted belief and work towards a realistic and more helpful belief. This internal pivot can lead to improved mood and positive changes in behavior. I like to use an occasional worksheet for clients to work on between sessions when helpful and relevant.
While I work with individuals only, I honor the impact and significance of one's past and present relationships. No matter how introverted one may be, we all need some level of connection. This need is what makes us human. We are unwell when we are isolated. I enjoy supporting clients in formulating and maintaining healthy relationships that overall supports their mental health. I provide psychoeducation on healthy relationships, boundaries, attachment styles and assertive communication. I also allow space to process wounds from past relationships.
I strongly believe that highlighting one's strengths is an effective way to support them in living their healthiest and happiest life. I aid client in harnessing their strengths for their benefit, while continuing to work on ways in which they can grow. I like to thoroughly get to know my client so that I may highlight strengths that they may have overlooked about themselves, as we are often our worst critics.
I do not believed that there is one cookie cutter method to treating clients. I take the time to get to know my client, build rapport and learn what their genuine goals are. This allows me to better assess which treatment methods will be the most effective. I feel it it important to remain flexible in treatment approaches and to be willing to pivot, based on client need.
