Hi, I’m Dr. Elizabeth Nyang, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with over 15 years of experience supporting adults navigating depression, anxiety, stress, and life transitions. I provide a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow. I understand how overwhelming low mood, persistent worry, or emotional exhaustion can be. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping you identify unhelpful thought patterns and develop practical coping strategies to improve daily functioning and overall well-being. I also incorporate mindfulness techniques and seated Tai Chi, a gentle mind-body practice that promotes relaxation, focus, and emotional regulation. Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on helping you gain clarity and move forward with confidence. Virtual sessions available.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, you can expect a relaxed and welcoming conversation. I will introduce myself, explain how I work, and take time to get to know you — your concerns, your goals, and what led you to seek therapy at this time. I will also ask about your expectations for therapy. Are you new to the process? Have you had past experiences — positive or difficult — that you’d like me to understand? Are you feeling unsure about why you’re here? There is no pressure to have everything figured out. Our first session is about building comfort, clarity, and a shared understanding of how we can move forward together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is my ability to combine structure with deep empathy. I use evidence-based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and gentle mind-body practices, while tailoring treatment to each client’s unique experiences and goals. I have worked with young African American men and young White men facing significant addiction challenges, helping them navigate relapse, identity concerns, and external pressures. I have supported single women balancing the financial and emotional responsibilities of raising children while managing stressful careers. I have also worked with young college graduates adjusting to their first professional roles and adults experiencing workplace stress, burnout, or frustration about limited advancement. In addition, I have experience supporting older adults coping with disability, loss of independence, and transitions into care facilities. These diverse experiences allow me to work both clinically and emotionally with clients across life stages and cultural backgrounds. I provide practical tools for change while offering a steady, compassionate presence. Clients often share that they feel understood, supported, and appropriately challenged — which leads to meaningful and lasting growth.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

You may feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Perhaps anxiety, low mood, or ongoing stress has started to affect your focus, relationships, or confidence — and you’re ready for practical tools that create real change. If you want a structured, supportive space where you can better understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are connected, we may be a good fit. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and gentle seated Tai Chi to help you calm your nervous system, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop healthier thinking patterns. I work especially well with adults who are motivated for growth and open to learning new coping skills. I also have extensive experience supporting young African American men navigating pressure, expectations, and stress that may not always feel safe to express elsewhere. If you are ready to do meaningful work and want a compassionate, steady guide, I would be honored to support you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. It helps the client to learn, identify, and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and practice practical coping skills to create meaningful change.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I incorporate meditation as a structured intervention to help clients improve emotional regulation, reduce stress, and increase present-moment awareness. Clients are guided through brief, evidence-based mindfulness or breathing exercises during session and may be assigned short daily practices between sessions to reinforce skill development and symptom reduction.

Mind-body approach

I incorporate simple Tai Chi–inspired movements as a gentle, mind-body intervention to support emotional regulation and stress reduction. Slow, intentional movements paired with breathing help clients increase body awareness, activate the relaxation response, and improve present-moment focus, which can reduce anxiety and improve mood stability.
