Dr. Teresa and I have created a very warm but challenging relationship. She often challenges my thoughts and lets me reframe them instead of telling me how to reframe them. This is very important to me as I can be resistant when people tell me how to think.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

When avoidance isn’t an option… what are you going to do with difficult feelings? We must live with and accept today the best we can. Be mindful, be present, face problems, and find ways to accept these experiences. However, what happens to us, what we think, what we feel does not completely define “self.” Commit to yourself and to choosing day to day actions that are consistent with your goals and values.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

Learn calming and coping strategies. Challenge yourself to react less to things you are afraid of (for panic attacks, phobias, OCD, social anxiety, public speaking, etc) by gradually “exposing” yourself aka putting yourself in contact with some small version of this fear starting with what you can handle! Acknowledge your success in facing your fears.
