I am Dr. Daniel Maurer and have practiced as a psychologist since 2011. I worked in traditional outpatient behavioral health, correctional settings and military hospitals. I work with individuals between the ages 6-100. I have 3 basic tenets when providing therapy. (1) Techniques should be practical and portable, typically only taking 1-5 minutes to implement. (2) I respect patient agency. Setting treatment goals and determining a treatment modality is a collaborative process. (3) The goal of therapy is to not attend therapy. I am focused on providing the patient with the skills, techniques and ability to function on their own without the need to come to therapy. My treatment approach is always based within evidence based treatments, but default to using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) treatment modalities

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session will focus on gathering background information and setting collaborative treatment goals. I place a strong emphasis on on functional impairment that is how one's mental health difficulties are negatively impacting their life or holding them back. The goal of therapy is to address this impairment.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I used CPT quite often for individuals who have experienced significant trauma. The underlying principles of CPT can be used to treat a wide variety of issues. This broad generalizability of the modality makes helpful.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

I use PE for individuals who have experienced significant trauma. PE has a straightforward, practical approach focused used gradual exposure to manage trauma.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is a transdiagnostic treatment approach that is less focused on symptom reduction and more focused on helping someone learn to thrive. It is a strong existential component that is helpful more people struggling to identify what they value from life.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a transdiagnostic treatment approach that is present/future focused and places a great deal of emphasis on internal dialogue.

Gender-affirming therapy

WHen working with Gender Diverse individuals, I use gender affirming therapy to help people (1) define their gender identity and explore their gender expression, and (2) develop resiliency skills
