New to Grow
My name is Barbara Gibbons, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board-Certified Diplomate with over 40 years of experience working in the medical and mental health fields. I have been a licensed social worker since 2008 and a licensed clinical social worker since 2013. I also hold postgraduate certificates in the treatment of PTSD, addiction, Gestalt therapy, and dual diagnosis. My approach to therapy is warm, grounded, and collaborative. I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel safe, understood, and supported while gaining insight into emotional patterns and life experiences. Outside of therapy, I value mindfulness, meditation, and overall wellness, and I often integrate these principles into my work with clients to support balance and self-awareness.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During our first session, my goal is to help you feel comfortable and supported in a judgment-free space. You never have to share more than what you’re ready for. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy and what you would like to work on, knowing that many people begin therapy unsure of their goals—and that’s completely okay. Together, we’ll begin clarifying your goals over time and identify next steps at a pace that feels supportive and manageable.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I integrate evidence-based approaches tailored to your individual needs. These may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, person-centered therapy, brief solution-focused therapy, and Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand patterns, triggers, and emotional responses. Together, we develop practical tools to manage anxiety and difficult emotions, build healthier relationships, strengthen communication and boundaries, and increase self-awareness. I believe therapy is not about perfection—it’s about progress, insight, and creating sustainable changes that enhance your quality of life.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work with adults ages 18 and older who are navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-esteem issues, or feeling stuck. My approach is compassionate, evidence-based, and tailored to each client’s unique needs. Together, we’ll identify patterns, build emotional resilience, and develop skills that support a more balanced, fulfilling life in a supportive and respectful therapeutic space.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I enjoy working with clients based on what they think and tell themselves about their life experiences. I take a deeper dive into core and intermediate beliefs and relate it to the clients current experiences.
