Hi, I am Mario, a mental health counselor and school psychologist licensed in Florida with over 20 years of experience. I have worked as a school psychologist with students from all age groups in the school setting. In my private practice, I have helped clients dealing with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, school and parenting problems. My counseling style is compassionate and interactive. I believe that a counselor should focus on listening to their client, in order to comprehend and help them with the challenges they are facing. My approach combines humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and existential counseling but is geared to fulfill your specific needs. If you feel the need to change and are ready to work toward this goal, I look forward to working with you!
The goal of the first session is to build a mutual knowledge, comprehension, and relationship. I will explain to you the basic rules that govern any safe and effective therapy, like confidentiality, privacy of the session, and informed consent. We will examine your intake, clarify your issues, and define some goal for the therapy.
My greatest strength is the ability to listening. I want to be sure that I understand what you want to communicate, your thoughts and your emotions. Without comprehension there is no therapeutic relationship.
I worked all my professional life in the school environment, with students, teachers, and parents, and them are my most common clients. My age brought me experience but also firsthand knowledge of the changes, difficulties, and challenges that the aging process involves, preparing me for a new and distinct set of clients. As my client, you need to remember that to obtain the most from the therapy process, it’s helpful that you are honest about your commitments to self-examination, understanding, and our relationship. This includes any concerns you may have regarding services or with me. I want to serve you well and appreciate any feedback you may have that will help me to do so. Therapy is a process that is often like taking three steps forward and one step back at times, but the overall momentum should be forward. Talking openly about this can help minimize stress about this process.
I’ve been using CBT in my practice for many years. It’s helped dozens of clients challenge reoccurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a less anxious and stressed life.
Psychological testing help me to read objectively through your discomfort and problems, produces valuable information for planning the treatment, and guides the development of an informed diagnosis.
One of the basic assumptions of my practice is the sensibility and respect to the culture of the client. My extensive personal and professional contact with distinct cultures facilitates my effort to be culturally informed and culturally responsive.
