Hi everyone! Are you a soon-to-be mother or father? Or perhaps you have not been feeling like yourself since your child's birth. If so, I would love to support you in managing everything birth-related, which could include fertility challenges, navigating postpartum, miscarriage, birth trauma, and more. I am certified in Perinatal Mental Health and passionate about working with birthing individuals and their partners before, during, and after birth. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I work alongside couples who need support navigating conflict management, sex and intimacy challenges, feeling lonely and disconnected, distributing parenting tasks, and infidelity. I help my clients regain agency over their lives and experience joy again. Let's work together as you navigate life's ups and downs because you deserve to receive the support you need.
We will get to know one another during our initial session to build a strong therapeutic relationship. The time we spend in session is yours, as you identify your challenges and goals for therapy. I will tailor an individualized plan that we'll work towards together throughout our sessions. If you have any questions or concerns, I am happy to answer them as I believe transparency is a key component to effective treatment.
I understand that every person is different, which allows me to be open and non-judgmental as I learn about your world. With a client-centered perspective, I honor that the client is the expert on themselves. I pride myself in being authentic, which provides the space for my clients to show up as themselves openly and honestly without fear or criticism. Life is tough enough, I bring an easy-going nature into sessions to ease the tension when navigating difficult concerns.
I specifically focus my work on couples and individuals during the perinatal period (concerns that arise from the desire to conceive through the postpartum period) for birthing individuals and their partners. Clients seeking my support present with pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth trauma, fertility challenges, and postpartum experiences. Couples who need support navigating conflict management, sex and intimacy challenges, emotional intimacy, distributing parenting tasks, and infidelity.

I identify as
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Many couples feel stuck in a repetitive "dance" where small disagreements quickly lead to feeling misunderstood or disconnected. Rather than just offering communication tips, we will work together to identify the deeper emotions and patterns driving those frustrating cycles. As a team, we’ll rebuild your emotional bond so you can move from conflict to feeling like each other’s "safe harbor" again. My goal is to help you stop fighting the same battles and start feeling like a true, secure team.
Interpersonal
Interpersonal therapy focuses on improving an individual’s interpersonal relationships and communication skills. Specifically during the transition to parenthood, I use interpersonal therapy for birthing individuals and their partners to identify and address role transitions, handle grief and loss, enhance communication skills, and build and strengthen their supportive network.
Psychodynamic
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on exploring how your past experiences, specifically from childhood, impact your present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I use this treatment method to uncover your unconscious patterns and conflicts, which will lead to a deeper self-understanding.

What brought me to Acosua’s profile was how I related to her description. After having a few sessions with her, I am grateful for how she is empowering me and making me feel comfortable to be better as a woman and especially as a mom! I look forward to our future sessions and the growth that I will have with her guidance!

I’ve just left my first session with Akosua feeling a little bit lighter. I’ve had a really tough few years and this last week has been especially hard. She gave me a safe space to cry and talk about whatever came to my mind as it showed up. I’m not always great with putting my thoughts into words, but she was wonderful and followed me with ease and helped put the words to the feelings. Grateful for therapy and for finding Akosua!
