LP, 18 years of experience
I’m Dr. Andy Davis, a licensed psychologist with 18 years of experience in the mental health field. Thirteen of those years were spent serving in the U.S. Air Force, where I had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. My clinical focus includes depression, anxiety, PTSD, stress, grief, personality disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, and concerns related to sex and pornography addiction. As a sex-positive therapist, I provide a safe and affirming environment for clients to explore sensitive areas of their lives without fear of judgment. My therapeutic style is both solutions-focused and rooted in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I believe therapy should be proactive and goal-driven, helping clients not only gain insight but also develop strategies for change. Clients often describe me as direct and honest, while also compassionate and collaborative—I strive to give practical feedback and advice that can be applied both in and outside of sessions. I especially enjoy working with veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and young adults. These groups often face unique challenges, and I consider it an honor to walk alongside them as they navigate life’s complexities. In addition to my clinical work, I have an extensive background in clinical research. While serving in the Air Force, I conducted sleep studies and developed modern treatment approaches for PTSD and traumatic brain injuries. This research continues to inform my practice, and I place strong emphasis on developing healthy routines, quality sleep schedules, and consistent self-care as foundations for mental health. I often work with clients to build structure into daily life, recognizing these habits play a powerful role in resilience and long-term well-being. Above all, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where clients feel empowered to face challenges, discover new perspectives, and build lasting resilience.
During our first session, I focus on creating a welcoming space where you feel heard and understood. We begin with an extensive intake to gather important background information, including your personal history, current challenges, and previous experiences with therapy. I like to have a conversational approach—getting to know you as a person, hearing your story, and understanding your needs and goals for therapy. This is also a time for you to ask questions about me, my therapeutic approach, and what you can expect from the process. I work with clients to clarify expectations, explore what has or hasn’t worked in the past, and assess your strengths and potential barriers to implementing therapeutic strategies. Together, we set initial therapy goals that are realistic and aligned with your priorities, helping to create a roadmap for change. By the end of our first session, the aim is for you to feel comfortable, informed, and empowered to begin the therapeutic journey. This session lays the foundation for a collaborative relationship, one in which we work together to identify solutions, develop strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change.
My greatest strengths lie in my solutions-focused, evidence-based approach to therapy. I work collaboratively with clients to develop practical strategies that support meaningful change and promote long-term well-being. A core focus of my work is helping clients establish consistent self-care routines, building the habits and skills necessary to maintain mental health outside of therapy sessions. I am committed to empowering clients to feel independent, self-reliant, and capable of managing life’s challenges. By providing clear guidance, actionable tools, and supportive accountability, I help clients gain confidence in their ability to implement change, solve problems, and create the life they want.
My ideal clients are those who are ready to invest in themselves and take meaningful steps toward growth and change. Ideally, I work best with clients that are open to exploring new perspectives, willing to practice consistent self-care, and are motivated to prioritize their mental health needs. I value working with people who are receptive to honest, solution-focused feedback and who are ready to use therapy as a space for creating lasting change.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the primary approaches I use in my practice. CBT is a structured, evidence-based method that helps clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. My approach integrates CBT with a solutions-focused perspective, ensuring that therapy is practical, goal-oriented, and directly applicable to everyday life. In sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to understand their unique thought patterns, emotional responses, and behavioral habits. Together, we identify negative or unproductive thinking and develop strategies to challenge and reframe these thoughts. This process allows clients to gain insight into how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected and provides concrete tools to create positive change. A core part of my CBT practice involves helping clients implement structured, consistent self-care routines. We focus on actionable steps, from building healthy sleep schedules to developing stress-management strategies, that reinforce mental well-being outside of sessions. I also emphasize clients’ capacity to apply therapeutic advice independently, empowering them to feel self-reliant and capable of managing challenges between sessions. Additionally, I use CBT to set measurable, achievable goals, helping clients track progress and celebrate milestones along the way. Whether addressing anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other concerns, this method allows for flexible adaptation to individual needs while maintaining a focus on practical solutions and lasting improvement. By combining evidence-based CBT techniques with a solutions-focused, empowering approach, I aim to provide clients with the skills, insight, and confidence to create meaningful change in their lives.
In addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I frequently use a solutions-focused approach in my practice. Solutions-focused therapy emphasizes identifying practical solutions and achievable goals rather than dwelling extensively on problems or past difficulties. The focus is on building on clients’ existing strengths and resources to create positive change in the present and future. In sessions, I work collaboratively with clients to clarify what they want to achieve and what success looks like for them. Together, we explore actionable steps that can be implemented immediately, helping clients see tangible progress quickly. This approach is highly goal-oriented and tailored to each individual’s unique circumstances, ensuring therapy remains relevant and effective. A central aspect of my solutions-focused method is helping clients develop consistent self-care routines and proactive strategies that reinforce mental well-being outside of sessions. I emphasize actionable guidance, empowering clients to take ownership of their progress and feel self-reliant, self-sufficient, and capable of managing challenges independently. By combining practical strategies with clear goal-setting, solutions-focused therapy provides clients with a roadmap to achieve meaningful change. This approach complements CBT techniques, offering flexibility and a focus on empowerment, personal strengths, and measurable results. My aim is for clients to leave each session feeling capable, motivated, and confident in their ability to implement solutions in their daily lives.
In my work with couples and individuals addressing relationship challenges, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solutions-focused strategies, and the Gottman Method to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based approach. This integration allows me to address both the emotional and behavioral aspects of relationships, while providing clients with practical tools to create meaningful, lasting change. CBT helps partners identify and modify unhelpful thought patterns, beliefs, and communication habits that may contribute to conflict, misunderstanding, or emotional distress. Solutions-focused therapy complements this by emphasizing actionable steps and goal-setting, allowing couples or individuals to focus on immediate, practical ways to improve their interactions and overall relational satisfaction. The Gottman Method provides a structured framework specifically designed to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and enhance emotional connection. Using this approach, I guide couples in building trust, managing conflict constructively, and fostering intimacy while recognizing each partner’s strengths and resources. In practice, sessions often include a combination of skill-building exercises, problem-solving strategies, and guided conversations. Clients are encouraged to implement these strategies outside of sessions, reinforcing self-reliance, collaboration, and consistent relationship maintenance. My goal is to empower clients—whether working individually or as a couple—to develop the tools, confidence, and insight needed to navigate challenges, strengthen connections, and achieve their relationship goals. By blending CBT, solutions-focused techniques, and the Gottman Method, I provide a flexible and personalized approach that supports both emotional understanding and practical change, helping clients create healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
