My name is Joe Calhoun, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Tampa, Florida, and working with clients state-wide via telehealth. I work with teenagers, and adults and specialize in treating addiction, anxiety, anger management, and relationship difficulties, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Faith Based Therapy, REBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy to help my clients meet their treatment goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session is all about me getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. I plan to gather as much information as I can about your presenting challenges, through asking questions about your life and listening intently to your life's story thus far. The more information that I gather about you and your life during the first session, as well as over the course of therapy, will help me to determine how to best help you in future therapy sessions.

My approach is that I quickly build rapport with my clients by meeting them where they are and listening closely to understand them as unique individuals. This approach leads to a healthy and fulfilling therapeutic relationship where clients feel supported and equipped with the tools, they need to resolve their various life challenges and live a more fulfilling life.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for teenagers and adults who may be dealing with various challenges in life, that often take the form of anxiety, depression, stress, anger, substance abuse, and difficulties coping with their past. I assist clients with building up their coping skills with their various challenges so that they can learn to move forward in their lives, no matter what they have to face.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used to help challenge a client's thoughts process and help guide them towards a positive way of resolving their personal challenges.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

REBT is utilized with clients to teach them how to dispute their irrational thoughts. The client learns how to increase their coping skills with their life challenges to prevent obtaining additional negative life consequences.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused Therapy is used to help a client to identify and resolve their conflict with achieving a goal. This therapist works with a client to resolve those conflicts and identify better strategies of achieving their personal goal.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is utilized to help clients resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities towards resolving their personal challenges. It is also used to help the clients find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior.

Faith based therapy

Faith Based Therapy is utilized with clients to assist them with integrating their religious beliefs, faith in their higher power, and their religious leaders, into them building their coping skills towards resolving their personal challenges.
