About me

Hi, I’m Gena Haley, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 25 years of experience supporting individuals across Colorado, Texas, New York, and Washington. I help people navigate anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and challenges in their relationships—whether with partners, family, or others close to them. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck. They’re looking for relief from emotional pain, clarity about their experiences, and practical tools to feel more in control. I believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative, respectful, and real.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative, respectful, and real. My role is to listen deeply, help you make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and offer tools that match your life—not a one-size-fits-all plan. Sessions often blend reflection, skill-building, and moments of honest conversation as well as being solution-focused. In our first session, we’ll take time to get acquainted and explore what brought you to therapy. Together, we’ll start shaping a plan that feels both realistic and meaningful. Each session is designed to offer something of value—whether it’s a new perspective, a practical coping skill, or simply the relief of knowing you’re not alone.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am detail-driven and systems-minded, but not at the expense of warmth. I balance clinical precision with empathy—my documentation notes, thoughts and processes show a deep respect for both structure and the person behind it. I also have range: I can toggle between therapist, writer, and strategist without losing my grounding or my focus. That mix—organized yet intuitive, professional yet human—is rare. If I had to name it plainly: I make complexity manageable without stripping away meaning.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with clients who want to understand themselves and their relationships more deeply—people navigating long-standing emotional patterns, relational strain, or the challenges of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world. They’re reflective but tired of looping in the same dynamics, ready for real tools and insight rather than surface-level advice. I help them repair connections, set boundaries, and feel more grounded and at home in their own wiring.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps clients recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another, then challenge and reframe unhelpful thinking patterns. In session, I guide you to test new ways of thinking through real-life practice and reflection. The goal is to build insight, emotional regulation, and behavioral flexibility they can carry on their own.

Interpersonal

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) focuses on how relationship patterns and life roles affect mood and functioning. In session, I help clients identify problem areas—like grief, conflict, role transitions, or social isolation—and develop healthier ways to communicate and connect. The goal is to improve relationships and, through that, ease emotional distress.

Family Therapy

Family therapy looks at how each person’s behavior and communication shape the family system as a whole. In session, I help members understand patterns, improve communication, and shift dynamics that keep problems stuck. The aim is to strengthen relationships and create more balanced, supportive ways of relating.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) blends acceptance and change—helping clients manage intense emotions while building practical coping skills. In session, I teach mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The goal is to create a life that feels more stable, balanced, and worth living.

Gestalt

Gestalt therapy centers on present-moment awareness and personal responsibility. In session, I help clients notice what they’re feeling and doing right now, often using experiential techniques. The goal is greater self-awareness and integration—so clients can live more authentically and respond to life with choice rather than habit.
