LCSW, 20 years of experience
New to Grow
Hello! My name is Shannon and I'm so happy you are taking steps to take care of you. In our sessions, I strive to create an open, judgement- free space where together we can explore your needs, identify your challenges, and create actionable steps for you to grow. In my twenty years of experience as a social worker, I've partnered with a range of diverse clients in different countries, and have been able to help many achieve their goals. I believe in the power of collaboration, and will work hard to establish an authentic and trusting relationship with you.
We'll have a conversation at a pace that works for you. I may ask some clarifying questions based off the information you provide, so that I fully understand your specific needs and points of view. Together we will identify your unique strengths, key challenges and create a personalized plan that we agree to utilize moving forward.
I am authentic, curious, and genuinely care about people. I firmly believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change and often encourage people to "step into their power." I acknowledge that change is sometimes uncomfortable, and I challenge clients to lean into that discomfort rather than shy away from it, as individual growth is bountiful in that space. My approach to therapy is to partner with clients to identify goals, measure progress and ultimately help them get where they want to be.
If you are a medical student feeling like an imposter, a college student struggling to manage symptoms of ADHD, a healthcare provider experiencing burnout, or a woman in the throes of perimenopause, I can help. I am passionate about healthcare provider mental health, college/university student mental health, and helping people navigate life transitions. Together, we will find solutions to the challenges you face.
I use CBT techniques to help clients identify the relationship among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Collaborating with you is essential when utilizing CBT. I'll do this by meeting you where you are, helping you set realistic, achievable goals. Together, we will work to recognize unhelpful thoughts, and find new ways of thinking.
I completed training at the Center for Mind-Body Medicine and have incorporated many of the techniques I learned there in my clinical practice. For example, we can begin each session with a deep breathing exercise. Additionally, we can include drawing, writing, movement, and other mindfulness practices in sessions.
A Strength-Based approach is fundamental to my clinical practice. I emphatically believe that every human being posse’s unique strengths. Sometimes, though, it is hard to recognize those strengths. As a therapist, my goal is to help you recognize, harness, and utilize your unique strengths to help you achieve your goals.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment is very helpful to find solutions to current problems. This action-oriented approach can help you identify ways to manage real time challenges, particularly when time is limited.
