New to Grow
Hello! I'm Jennifer. I've been a therapist for over 15 years, working with clients with everything from depression to anxiety to transitional issues. My specializations include women's issues including infertility, postpartum, parenting to menopause. As a mixed Asian provider, I am acutely attuned to issues of culture and intergenerational expectations. I also often see people who are in high stress, high achievement jobs that are on the verge of burnout.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The first session with me (called an intake) generally looks very different than a traditional therapy session. I will review some nuts and bolts about myself, the therapy process and cancellation policies, etc. However, the bulk of the session will be assessing current symptoms that you are experiencing and a comprehensive history so that I can best understand the factors that are influencing your current situation.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am a provider with an eclectic approach- I don't subscribe to any one method or modality in therapy. This is in keeping with my belief that different types of approaches resonate differently with different people. I prefer to have many types of tools in my tool box to choose from which I can custom tailor to each client, providing them with what is most effective and resonates with them.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
Oftentimes, the common link for many of my clients is examining their expectations of themselves and boundaries that they have with others. My clients walk away with practical tools- be it a shift in mindset, a coping strategy to try or a perspective to explore. I always seek to cultivate collaboration with therapeutic goals.
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
As a mixed ethnicity provider I am attuned to issues of culture
EMDR
I have been trained in EMDR for the last 10 years and use this with clients who are interested in this modality.
Feminist
I come from a feminist perspective in understanding the role of patriarchy in shaping our thoughts, feelings and cultural expectations.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I use an IFS informed model and parts work in my practice.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I have a great deal of experience in working with clients who have experienced trauma.
