Hi! I'm a Black and Queer Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Atlanta, GA (also licensed in New York). I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from Kennesaw State University, following up with my Masters from Fordham University, and have been practicing for 10 years. I help adults struggling with anxiety, depression, identity, and life adjustments become the best versions of themselves.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. The first session, for me, is a time to get a general understanding about who you are, how you've gotten to this particular part of your life, and where you'd like to go. The information gathered in this session will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in future sessions.
With a decade of working with diverse clients, I can confidently say that my greatest strengths are my ability to genuinely connect with my clients and truly see them and meet them where they are in life. I think that connection is crucial to clinical and personal development and goal achievement.
I love working with adults of various background who are at different stages of life. My clients are eager to improve and do the work, but don't yet have the tools needed to make their goals a reality. They often feel overwhelmed by the challenges in front of them, are having a difficult time finding the motivation to take necessary steps, and/or feel stuck and confined to a way a life that is no longer beneficial.
Narrative Therapy is a powerful approach that focuses on helping clients separate themselves from their problems by externalizing issues and rewriting their personal narratives. In my practice, I use it to empower clients by validating their lived experiences and helping them reframe their stories in a way that highlights resilience, agency, and strength. I guide clients through exploring dominant societal narratives that have shaped their identities, challenge oppressive or limiting beliefs, and co-create alternative narratives that align with their values and aspirations. Through storytelling, reflection, and re-authoring techniques, I help clients reclaim control over their personal stories, fostering healing and growth.
Person-Centered Therapy is a core part of my practice, complementing my use of Narrative Therapy. I create a space where clients feel deeply heard, valued, and empowered to explore their own experiences without judgment. By prioritizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness, I help clients connect with their inner strengths and navigate their personal growth at their own pace. I affirm lived experiences, honor identities, and support self-acceptance in the face of societal pressures. This approach fosters trust and self-exploration, helping my clients recognize their own agency in shaping their narratives and healing journeys.
I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into my practice by helping clients identify and reframe negative thought patterns that impact their emotions and behaviors. By integrating CBT with Narrative Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy, I create a holistic approach that empowers clients to reshape their personal narratives while providing them with practical strategies to challenge cognitive distortions. I use CBT techniques such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and coping skills training to support clients in managing anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns.
