My name is Lynnsey Vandeventer, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor Supervisor in the state of Kentucky, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a Certified Addiction-Informed Mental Health Professional. Since 2019, I have worked primarily in the field of substance use, where I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals and families through some of their most challenging and transformative moments. I am deeply passionate about helping others grow into their fullest potential, and I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is welcoming, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I bring a calm, approachable presence to my work, while also offering clear clinical insight and guidance rooted in my years of experience. In addition to my clinical practice, I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision, which continues to expand my knowledge and strengthen my commitment to the counseling profession. My goal is to walk alongside clients with authenticity and respect as they move toward healing, growth, and meaningful change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, my goal is to help you feel comfortable, understood, and supported from the moment we begin. We’ll start by talking about what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the experience, at a pace that feels right for you. I’ll ask some initial questions to get a sense of your background, current concerns, strengths, and what’s been working—or not working—for you so far. This meeting isn’t about pressure or perfection; it’s simply a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a trusting, collaborative relationship. I’ll explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and together we’ll start shaping a plan that aligns with your goals and comfort level. By the end of our first session, my hope is that you leave feeling heard, supported, and hopeful about the path ahead.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a provider is my ability to create a safe, affirming space where clients feel genuinely heard, respected, and supported. I bring a calm, steady presence to the therapeutic process, allowing clients to explore difficult emotions and experiences without fear of judgment. My strong clinical foundation—rooted in evidence-based practices, years of work in substance use treatment, and ongoing doctoral training—helps me provide clear guidance and meaningful insight. I am skilled at meeting clients exactly where they are, adapting my approach to their unique needs, and empowering them to take intentional steps toward change. Above all, my compassion, authenticity, and dedication to personal and professional growth allow me to show up consistently as a grounded, knowledgeable, and trustworthy partner in their healing journey.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal client is someone who is open to self-exploration and motivated to make meaningful changes in their life, even if they’re feeling unsure about where to start. They value a collaborative therapeutic relationship and are willing to engage honestly in the process, whether that means examining long-standing patterns, learning new skills, or practicing healthier communication. This client is ready to take small but intentional steps toward growth, appreciates a supportive and nonjudgmental space, and is interested in developing greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and healthier relationships. They don’t need to have everything figured out—just a willingness to show up, be curious, and work toward becoming the best version of themselves.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

In my work, I use a person-centered approach that emphasizes genuine empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity in the therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a safe, accepting space where clients feel truly heard and understood, allowing them to explore their experiences without judgment. By trusting clients’ inherent capacity for growth and self-direction, I support them in gaining deeper self-awareness, strengthening their inner resources, and moving toward meaningful personal change at their own pace.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my therapeutic work, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify unhelpful thinking patterns, develop healthier cognitive responses, and practice practical skills that support lasting change. I take a collaborative and strengths-based approach, guiding clients as they experiment with new coping strategies, challenge limiting beliefs, and build greater emotional resilience in their daily lives.

Couples Counseling

In my work with couples, I focus on strengthening communication, rebuilding trust, and deepening emotional connection between partners. I help each person feel heard and understood while guiding them to express needs, concerns, and emotions in constructive, compassionate ways. Using evidence-based strategies, I support couples in identifying unhelpful interaction patterns, developing healthier ways of relating, and fostering a shared sense of teamwork. My goal is to create a safe, balanced space where both partners can grow together and build a more resilient, fulfilling relationship.

Motivational Interviewing

In my therapeutic approach, I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to help clients explore their own reasons for change in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I focus on eliciting their strengths, values, and goals while gently resolving ambivalence through open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations. By honoring client autonomy and building intrinsic motivation, MI allows clients to move toward meaningful change at a pace that feels authentic and empowering to them.
