Hi! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in North Carolina. I received my Masters from the East Carolina University and have been practicing for 11 years. I help children and adults with depressed moods, stress, substance misuse, and low self-worth become the best versions of themselves. My hope is to provide you with skilled and compassionate therapeutic assistance to overcome mental health challenges. As a therapist and person of faith, I am committed to providing high-quality, person-centered services. In therapy, I prefer to use a combination of Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and motivational enhancement strategies to help people understand what drives them, identify barriers to the change they seek and develop the skills necessary to become the persons they were created to be. People often ask what makes Christian counseling different from traditional services. Faith-based counseling incorporates good clinical practice, biblical values and an understanding that there is a Counselor greater than us all, the Holy Spirit, who actively guides and directs the paths of those who believe. Your goals and values provide the context for everything I do. I am committed to providing services free from judgment, stigma, and shame. And you can feel comfortable incorporating your spirituality into sessions as much as you wish.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Having worked with many clients with various mental health concerns for the past 11 years, I am able to help you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.
I love working with clients who feel that they are stuck in a rut. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed and anxious about their lives-future as well as past.
With counseling from a Biblical perspective, many people have found the source of inner healing through the word of God and prayer. It is my mission to help those discover this way of life and experience freedom from anxiety, depression, addictions, mental turmoil, unhealthy thinking patterns and low self-esteem by focusing on living and fulfilling your purpose.
CBT is an evidenced based modality that I have utilized in practice for over 10 years. It focuses on how what you think, affects how you feel, thus how you feel, makes you react a certain way. Therefore, we restructure negative thoughts and feelings into more adaptive thoughts and feelings to produce positive behavioral changes. It relies on psychoeducation and practicing of the skills.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is an approach that I have been trained in and have used with clients who have experienced adverse childhood trauma such as sexual abuse as well as domestic violence. It helped to heal and process memories that cause nightmares and flashbacks, even years after the trauma first occurred.
Understanding the reasoning behind our thought processes and actions as well as presenting material to clients so that they can make changes, is very important.
