I have a bachelor’s degree in sociology, earned at the University of Havanna. I completed a PHD in Sociology at Marthin Luther University in Halle Wittenberg, Germany, and a Master of Science in psychology with a major in Marriage and Family therapy at the Carlos Albizu University, Florida USA. I have worked in the field for over 20 years in different positions and serving different populations in the field of mental health. I ;m bilingual and provide also sessions in Spanish language.
In our first session together, we will discuss confidentiality limits and establish rapport. I will also discuss how the therapeutic process works and assess goals for therapy.
My greatest strengths are my communication skills and my ability to help clients reach their goals.
I consider myself a very open-minded person who is willing to help people and enjoy the process of getting them to reach their goals in life. People do not necessarily need to have a mental health diagnosis to receive therapy. Everyone can benefit from therapy. I believe that the current social and environmental situation in our society and in the world in general are affecting individuals, families and communities, adding stressful issues to everyone and especially to people in need. My motto is “I’m here to serve.” I love to work with my clients, empowering them to reach their goals and providing the necessary tools to manage their own life in a healthy way.
I use several therapeutic approaches based on my client's needs. CBT allows the client to explore thought patterns and how they influence their mood, emotions and behavior. I work collaboratively with the client to create new thought patterns.
In this type of modality, it is important that the therapist treat the relationship and do not create alliance with neither partner. It's important to know when this type of modality is not recommended.
